There have been some really amazing new Colors out there recently! I love the new Aeroflot colors. They are international and modern but still "fly the flag" in a great way. I also love the Gulf Air with that huge gold falcon on the tail. Whats your fav?

I have to say that my most favorite new liveries are:
Delta (not particularly new, but a very classy livery)
JAL (I love the bold statement made by the rising sun on the tail)
Northwest (a very non-traditional and modern livery)

The new color scheme of Aeroflot is nice but the best among the newly commisioned schemes is the Northwest one. It's smart, elegant and definitely has a distinctive character. JAL's new tail is cool but they could have done something on the fuselage.

NWAA330: New DHL livery is hideous
I'm sad to say, but I couldn't agree more. It does however stand out from all the rest of the airplanes, in fact, I think you can almost see that it is a DHL plane even if it is at 10,000 feet and you are on the ground
The colour functions as a fog light too... you almost see the colour before you see the landing lights and beacons when it's heavy fog...

And that's what DHL are all about. They didn't apply the new livery thinking wether people would see it was a masterpiece or not. They did it only for pure MARKETING and publicity. People associate strong colors with simple ideas, and they're trying to make a profit out of that.

AV may have applied the new colors in a bad moment, but it'll be worth it in a long term. White painted aircraft are much more easy to maintain than red. Plus, white makes airplanes lighter, hence more economy.
Aesthetically, I'm positively sure they could have come up with something brilliant, something that really accomplished publicity's main target: transmit an idea. Publicits have to play with psychological facts and reach the level where they can create beauty through simplicity. But they didn't. Most people don't even recognize it's a butterfly.
With those three colors they could have created an aesthetic masterpiece, with national value and that could be easily associated with AV. They could have thought in a new and original concept, and you, more than anyone else, know that we count here with lots of creativity and imagination.
But I guess they were economically limited and had to come up with sothing simple.
