What a surpise!!!
If AC gets the A345's or 46's next year it will probably reinstate all these routes....... They're like a guy holding on to a rope in quicksand right now...... Eventually they'll get tired or the rope will break!

Has there been any press release.
It has become the norm, rather than the exception, for airlines to not release PRs when they are ending service to a destination. It gives them bad press. USAirways, for example, ended at least 10-15 destinations (Express) during bankruptcy, but only five were announced in PRs (Madison, Baton Rouge, Lansing, Worcester, and Saginaw).

I have it from a high placed Iberia source, ie way up Americas management, that unfortunately it looks like if AC cuts the MAD service they will not step in, although they've cosnidered YYZ and they might still. Sorry to disappoint you Mark, and this is not intended to cause any side debates, but I asked directly whether they were thinking about canada and was told not likely but that it would only be YYZ they would come to, YUL is not even considered a remote possibility.
He thinks Transat or one of the cdn Charters will try to pick up the MAD route, much of that traffic was summer leisure pax anyway.
I agree with you though Mark, it's a darned shame Canada can't support direct service to Spain.
