Don't know if you can request a "runway view" room, but it may be worth a shot! As much of an aviation enthisast as I am, I hope you spend more time in the casinos and, um, Gentlemen's clubs than at the airport!

Anything southern strip (from the MGM downward) gets pretty good views of the airport, although a higher room in a big hotel is going to improve your view.
For a list of hotels in the southern strip, take a look at http://www.britvegas.com/hotellist.asp

I have stayed in both the MGM and Mandalay Bay and both have Great Airport views. I have found sometimes the newer front desk staff get a little confused as to which rooms have the best views so if this happens on check in ask for help from a supervisor. Also the prices at these hotels can be easily triple on Friday and Saturday night over Sunday thru Thursday. If you can avoid Friday or Saturday you will save a lot of money.

I stayed at the Luxor and we had a great view of the airport from the Pyramid. Decent room too nothing special but a solid 3star property with a great pool.

Just wanted to mention that you may want to not stay at the San Remo as its a bit dodgy- definitely Mandalay bay or MGM Grand are the better ones, followed by Luxor and the Trop. MGM Grand especially moreso as they have a tram that connects the hotel with some other properties down the Strip (i.e. do NOT rent a car if you intend to only stay on the Strip) Also, if you are there on a Tuesday or Thursday you will be able to see some of the big boy planes arriving from overseas which is amusing

Just back from Vegas and a stay in the Luxor. Great airport views from the Pyramid. I believe that you should have fabulous airport views from Mandalay Bay as well, although the Luxor would be much cheaper. Don't worry about the rooms in the Luxor, it's clean and quite decent.

I definitely had some great views from the Pyramid at Luxor. Don't know how the Tower there is, and I'd imagine that Mandalay Bay has some good views too.

Yep Manadalay Bay or MGM if you get a room that faces the airport, heck just request it! From either you can see just about the whole airport if your up high enough!

Mandalay Bay is a great hotel for spotting especially since its a much taller building than Luxor or MGM, which makes for better viewing of all the runways. LIke shown in the pictures above the planes takes off towards the west and flies right next to the hotel.
I have also stayed at The Hard Rock Hotel, the hotel is a little far from the airport but depending on how they are landing at LAS, the planes passes right next to the hotel on approach. Then from the balcony you can see part of the airport and its runway. Claearly, was able to make out the planes such as JAL, UA, WN even from the distance.

Luxor... cheap, decent accomodation and a stone's throw from the runway!
Beware,... i've stayed at the Luxor twice and neither time was able to get an airport view (of course if my main goal was to GET an airport view I would have made arrangements well in advance, and probably stayed at Mandalay Bay).
Also, the exterior glass at the Luxor was filthy and I couldn't really see much detail outside through the dirty glass.

I always stay at the Rio which is a great hotel but it is not great for viewing KLAS. As most people say, the Luxor, Mandalay Bay and MGM are probably your best bets. If a view of the airport is a must, you might have a better chance of getting a airport view at the MGM. The Luxor and Mandalay Bay are across the street from MGM so any view of the airport will also be a view of the strip. Because of this, it might be harder to get one of those rooms. At the MGM the back of the hotel faces the airport and the strip views are in the opposite direction which might make the airport views easier to get.
Of those three hotels, I would go to Mandalay Bay. You will have the best balance of a possible airport view, good hotel and the total Vegas experience.
If you have desire to go to the hotels that are the most fun, The Rio and The Palms are the best party hotels.

Mandalay Bay is the best. Careful though - the new tower "THEhotel" should be open by then. No view, it's behind the main hotel. Also, the upper floors of the main hotel are the House of Blues Foundation Room and the Four Seasons. Neither cheap nor easy to get into. Lower floors may not have the best views.
Luxor is OK. Never clean it though. Their hotel tower has a better view of the freeway than the airport.
Try to include a Thursday or Sunday. Best days for international and charter flights.
My favorite area for spotting is the old Sport Park parking lot behind the Calloway Golf Center at Las Vegas Blvd. and Sunset Rd. Good place for action on both runways.
