ISP WN's New Terminal In Islip, NY

I know that there is a new terminal being built in ISP. It's kind of obvious when you drive by and see the thing. I heard it was suposed to have 8-11 gates. Anybody have more specifics on the opening date and layout(inside), also when are they going to hire more CS rep's? I wanted to know what they were going to do for parking, the parking situation there is alreay bad during peak times! Also who will take the gates currently held by WN in the central terminal building?

I replied to FL's online poll for new service into ISP, I don't know why thay would serve both LGA and ISP to Florida. But who knows?
Doesn't anybody have any information on the ISP terminal building??

NYC is a huge aviation market. There is enough demand to have flights from all of the area airports. LGA and ISP cater to different markets in many ways.....You don't see many people living in Manhattan going out to ISP and v.v for a person living in eastern Long Island driving to LGA is a pain.

The people on Eastern LI sometimes have to drive all the way into the city for a semi reasonable fare to where they want to go . The seats from ISP are so limited to many places that the prices go up really fast. Also, the flights out of ISP sometimes have a really long layover in a city that's in the complete opposite direction of your final destinantion.(ISP-BOS-MIA on AA) They serve mostly the same people. If the ISP service wasn't available, they would go into the city and the NYC service is always available. So, would you find enough people to add another 4 or 5 flights to ATL? I know they serve 41 cities from ATL but most of them are up here in the North and nobody would travel LGA-ATL-PHL, BWI, BOS, MDW, ect.

Seems that Wn's big strategy right now is to keep the BWI-ISP route as packed as it is and keep only routes to Florida open. which is nice for snowbirds mostly. then again, you know how it is living on Long Island...if you have a house on Long Island, yo HAVE to have one in FLorida as well as own an SUV!  Insane

Seriously though, I still hate that they squashed the ISP-PVD route. That was a dream to get to New England quicker than having to take the ferry or drive around.

Of course,though they squashed it. Newsday even ran a story on a family and on how it would affect their lives.

I mean if even they kept just ONE ISP-PVD each way per day, that is better than nothing. But I really don't know more about logistics, etc and mine is an uninformed opinion.

ISP is my home airport and all of our friends and familly would pay the difference to fly out of ISP. Never once have I been on a flight where it is not full. Southwest definetly has the flyers to expand. We miss Delta Express alot, and a competitor to WN is needed to Florida. Possible FL, though highly doubtful. ISP definetly has potential, though.

Delta Express stopped flying to ISP? I was wondering about that, cause I driving past the airport alot and I haven't seen a Delta Express plane at the terminal (or takeing off and landing over my house) in a while now.

Delta Express used to serve the Florida market direct from ISP. They went twice a day to FLL from ISP and returned. They also service one other Florida airport.
Anyway, since this topic has evolved into it, Who do you think will be the second greatest competitor in ISP and ...
What is happening with the new WN building.

Well after Southwest you don't have much competition at ISP. You have to choose between Comair (to CVG) ASA (to ATL) American Eagle (to BOS) Continental Express (to CLE and ALB) and US Airways Express (to PHL and ALB)

As for the construction.....I drove past the airport on Monday and it looks like it is going along nicely.


On another subject........Does Southwest fly from ISP-RDU? I was looking at the ISP web site today and it has Southwest flight 3664 to RDU (left at 3:06pm). Is this a new route? This is the first time I seen RDU as a destination of Southwest from ISP.

If it's a new route, it must be very new indeed. I was at ISP last Thursday, waiting for a flight to TPA, and with some time to kill I perused WN's most recent schedule. Its 24 daily departures from ISP are to the same destinations as always - BWI, MDW, BNA, and the Florida group. Definitely no RDU.

I just checked the flight attendant crew scheduling system and flight 3664 did indeed operate from ISP-RDU continuing to TPA. Flight 3664 was originally scheduled as a 1430 departure operating nonstop ISP-TPA. 3664 arrived RDU at 1623 and departed only 13 minutes later at 1636. Sounds like a fuel stop to me. Perhaps the flight was weight restricted for some reason or another. Pehaps someone from Ops with OTIS access could chime in????

I checked the WN schedule for flights out of ISP, they show 7 flights to RDU with conections in BWI all requiring a change of planes. They show no N/S's.

I am not sure why it was on the ground only 13 minutes, but I see that our 3000 series flights are holiday type schedules. And as ,in BOI,anyway, New Year's Eve sched is same as Christmas Eve, you may see the same flight next week,too.
Just checked our site, 3664 to be ns Wed.
In my experiences with fuel stops, they are very rarely done with in under 30 min,let alone 15. So who knows why it went to NC st/Duke.

When driving to the existing terminal, it is right before the central terminal building. WN will leave behind 4 gates or maybe 5 gates and a lot of check-in counters. They get so many flights in and out of each gate that they have a great need for check-in positions so what ever happens to the gates there will be check-in positions available, I'm sure of that.

I believe that ISP has currently 14 gates in the central terminal. LGBguy, are you saying that the new terminal will have 8 gates leaving the total gate space at 22?
