Can anyone describe to me where Tower Air's JFK terminal was, what it was like, and how one was able to access it? Is it still used today by another airline, or is it sitting vacant?

Furthermore, does anyone have any pictures of it or have any links to pics of it?

Thanks,

It was off of the Central Terminal Area.......alongside runway 31L/13R, next to the old TWA offices. It wasn't much of a terminal, it only had 3 gates i believe and the inside was crappy as hell.....It is still sitting vacant as far as i know.

It was far from the Central Terminals, it is near hangars, cargo buildings etc..

Was not much more than a hangar with a arm strectching out with about 4 gates, all gone now except for the structure itself.

It's not going to ever see airline service again, at some point the PA will tear it down and build a "new" hangar or cargo building.

I flew on the in 98. luckily only once. The terminal if thats what you want to call it was a nightmare. They had tons of people crammed into a small terminal. I was flying to the Dominican Rep. Our planw was delayed i thik about 2 hours and we couldnt make the security checkpoint even at that time. They yelled out over inside and told anyone who is on that flight ot make it to the front....duh. then as we were boarding the plane two cops cut in front of us witha man in handcuffs who we had the pleasure of flying with. all in all it sucked royaly not ot mention the plane was a tad scary. comming home i remember that when we deplaned we had no idea where to go no one gave directions and someone ended up opening a doo and some alarm went off. pretty lame. oh well fun fun.

Apparently it was an inverted cargo terminal, with maybe 3 or 4 gates. I drove by it. There was two entrances to the terminal, one for Coach and one for business class. It wasnt much!

Does anyone have any photographs of the terminal? I would be interested to see what it looked like, as JFK is one of my favorite airports and I am fascinated by its history. Of course naturally the Tower Air terminal could not be compared with the other terminals in terms of architecture et cetera, however it would still be interesting to see what it lookd like, for reference purposes.

BTW did the Tower Air Terminal have a number? I presume if it did it would have been Terminal 10? Also were there any shuttlebusses connecting it to the other terminals?

I flew Tower on my honeymoon back in June of 1995. JFK-MIA. What I remember of the terminal was the fact that it looked like a hanger that went through a quick face lift. I felt more like I was inside a giant Pet Smart than an airport. As others mentioned there were less than a handful of gates. There was a small sitting area after security. It reminded me of passenger holding lounges that were all the rage at BWI and MIA circa 1964 or so. The seats were in those old time colors. Upon return from MIA I remember distinctly a lot of clutter around the ramp area for Tower. Trucks and other support paraphernalia were parked about this area. It seemed like a "Skinner Maze" for airplanes. Alas, neither Tower Air nor my marriage survived the test of time

The Port Authority did not even consider it a terminal, so it did not get a terminal number. All the road signage said "Tower Air terminal", I do not believe it was connected to the intra Terminal Area bus but it was a stop for the Q-10? and Howard Beach Subway shuttle.

The building did have a number, but every single Port Authority building from Airports to toll booths get a designated number so as to speed Police response.

Let Zippy's story be a lesson...If you want your marriage to survive, don't book a discount airline for your honeymoon!!!

Here's the best I could do with coming up with a photo of the old Tower Air Terminal, it's on the right side of this picture. It's a blue conourse with about 4 gates, one or two are missing.

Sorry this is the best picture I've been able to find, I've looked before when people have asked for pictures of the terminal.

Someone should really go out and photograph the building for folks!

This picture should give you an idea of what type of area the "terminal" is in, surrounded by fuel farms, cargo buildings etc.. It's probably a good mile or more from any of the Central Terminals, perhaps as far as two miles.
