I came across this picture and I realized that this definitely beats any approach. Especially since there's no runway visible...

A mile of runway takes you to the world. A mile of highway takes you a mile.

Heh no, sorry.

SXM is pretty. Cows and fields are pastoral, cute sometimes, but not stunning.

I agree that the scenery at SXM is better than in this picture.

But it looks like this one flies lower over the heads of people than a/c flying over Maho beach in front of SXM.

So I consider the pictures taken at SXM and this picture equal.

That`s a departure, not an arrival, and the runway is on the other side of that small wood fence.

Arrivals over Maho Beach are much closer to the ground as this a/c is to the cows & people.

It's an allusion. The aircraft is over the runway at the time. The huge size of it just throws ya off.

Hello there Levg79.

This comes close but does not beat SXM.

Sometimes people forget the point,

Its not that the aircraft are low to the ground at SXM, its that there is a beach open to tourists and used by hotels just metres from the threshold of the runway, and that heavies regularly land only a matter of feet over the heads of those on the beach!

At every airport the aircraft get close to the ground!!!

It's indeed a take-off and it was a nice spot: the end of the public road was only 30meter away from the runway (so the wing of an An-124 almost passed over your head... and you could get blown away by the jet blast). There was a similar spot on the other side of the runway.

But you can't compare it to SXM for sure. Totally different environment and climat Big grin
Both spots are closed now unfortunately.

If there was a cow flying away due to jetblast...well that would make SXM look boring!
The captain of the next departing flight would certainly not be too afraid of birdstrike, but certainly tell his FO: "Hey, man, watch out for low-flying cows, man!" "Oh my god, we have a bull in engine #3..."

Or I just get a grip on myself and stop this...
