I see that MD 11 is very popular in the Forum. It's of course a beautifull plane, but I can't understand why it has so many fans: it's was produced not in grat number, it's efficency isn't so good, the range could be better, etcc.

It is a great plane, one of the last built by MDD.
not only did it looks great, with its 3 big engines and its winglets, In my eyes it is the best plane, compared with the A330-300 and the 777-200.
I hope we will see this great bird in the air for a long time to come

To some because its a beautiful Large Trijet that has some flare to it, unlike the boring twin engine planes that all look. The only reason we can tell the difference is because we are enthusiast. The same applies to the L10,D10,747 and 727 the rest are boring not including the real old school stuff like the 707 etc..

Delta retire MD 11 from and to Europe. In Winter Az use B767 and B777, and LX A330.

The MD-11 is the first widebody I ever worked on. While it can be a quirky airplane and aircraft such as the 767 and 777 are easier to work on it's still the best looking widebody IMO. It's nice to see it get a second life as a freighter. Since Douglas built a tough airplane it will be around for some time.

Sometimes, the most interesting and sought-after objects of affection are those that have gained minimal success. I would say that there are a bunch of us who have always seen the MD-11 as much more than the average airliner. The MD-11 mixes the past with the present while at the same time delivering a unique and fascinating story. Oh yeah, she looks great too.

i happen to like the MD's and the DC's very much. I especially love the MD-11 because it was the first plane i flew on. I was two months old and i flew from JFK-PHX and it was one of the first flights of a MD-11 it was a American. I also think that the MD-11 is beutiful and so so striking. The shape of the planes and the way the liveries just slip on to the airplane it is just wonderful!
But the MD-11 is not so popular in the Airline business :-(
i just love the MD-11 i also like the concorde and Airbuses but i love the MD-11 and the DC-10.
The MD-11 just opens my eyes in amezment when ever i see it in the air, on the ground, routating! it is just amazing!
I also like that little ramp on the tail engine.

It is uniquely beautiful and although its passenger career was short, it has turned out to be an exceptional cargo plane. I remember Lufthansa Cargo said the plane was retired from production too early, as there is no other cargo plane out there with the capabilities of the MD-11F. Of course, I just love the trijet design.

For me... I was a kid when Swissair 111 happened... all i remember was it being a MD-11. This created some kinda phycological thing that nowadays, whenever i hear about an md-11 it just scares me in thinking its unsafe. Although i know its quite stupid and untrue but hey, it happens.
I must admit its very very beautiful but I would probably have trouble boarding one.

I have always had good experineces with the MD-11. I like it. American used to have one daily service to DFW from ORD using a MD-11. I always picked that flight and American did not charge you extra for sitting in Business class
they treated as a coach fare. It was a very comforable flight. That flight has been replaced by a 777.

You can count me to MD-11 "fan club" too... I love those trijets and LUCKILY our national carrier has decided keep them in service still many years! Finnair also had honour to fly MD-11s first commercial flight and I flew on their MD-11 only few weeks after that.. It was love on the first sight!
I have flown many times on B767, B744, A330, A340 and even still MD-11 is best of them and offers very comfortable ride! I know it is little bit more expensive to operate than its newer rivals, but you can easily compensate those costs by its far better cargo capability... That is also the reason why Finnair is so happy with them.

In 1993 a World Airways MD-11 (N271WA) landed at Scott AFB and dropped off a passenger at Base Ops and returned to IAD. I was assinged to the C-21 squadron at Scott and our squadron was located on the second floor of the base ops building. The aircraft was simply massive compared to Hanger One. I was a pax on the very same plane in July 2001 flying from Frankfurt to BWI after spending some time in Kuwait courtesy of the US Air Force.
I think it is the closest an airliner has come to looking like a starship with those fab winglets.
I should have worked on one, but the airline i was working for went under.
The 2 initial aircraft went to Delta.

The first jet I fell in love with was the DC10. You can imagine the excitement I had when a larger, more powerful version came out.. The MD11. IMO It's an incredible looking airplane. There's something about that tail mounted engine, those long, swept-back wings that don't end until they near the rear stabs, that mean looking nose, those cool approach lights that sit flush with the fuselage when they're off, but swing out when they're on.. so many things. Not to mention it's a rocket during takeoff and a comfortable cruiser. Someone else mentioned that it didn't get the success it deserved.. That's another reason I love it.
