From where to where do they go? I mean, does Mecca have its own airport? How many flights? Which airlines do most flights? What else is particular about them?

a few years ago, I took 1-month unpaid leave to work the Hajj flights of Kabo Air of Nigeria.
We flew on an old 747-100 (ex PanAm, still with small Juan Trippe titles), between, Jeddah and Kano, Abuja and Lagos.
We were a mixed Swiss, UK and US crew, and worked like hell! Our pax were pilgrims who, for the most part, had never boarded a plane before (and probably never used a toilet before either it seemed).

as far as i know, to alleviate the influx of millions, all hajjis flight into JED and out of MED, or vice-versa. this kind of also forces hajjis to spent some $ in each place.
poorer far-flung countries - such as Indonesia - start shuttling their hajjis up to a month before the hajj because there is simply not enough capacity, and in almost all cases travel is limited to SV or the national airline.

The pilgrimage calls on places in Macca, Madinah and in places between the two. Flying into JED and out of Madinah as NOTHING to do with forcing Hajjis to spend $$$ at both places. It is an attempt to streamline the flow of the 2 million or so pilgrims.
Mecca does not have a public airport, the closest one is Jeddah. As far as I recall, there is a no-fly zone (not UN imposed!) over Mecca anyway

Makkah(correct spelling) is getting its own airport in a few years, personally I think the numbr of pilgrims should be dropped to only 10,000 from each country, so people can perform this duty in peace and with due respect to it.

The only backwater airport that PIA do Hajj flights from is Quetta which has no scheduled link to Saudi Arabia their only international routes are Dubai, Sharjah and Mashhad, majority are from Lahore followed by Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar.
