Now that we heard a lot of rumors in the last months of 2003, here are some of my predictions or wishes for 2004.

1. Mexicana
Leaving Star Alliance, but keeping some of its alliances with AC, NH, LH & SQ. Maybe an interesting announcement following the break-up with SA)">UA (31/03): SA)">AA is in the mirror, and so is Oneworld. Most likely they'll start some new codeshares with BA & SA)">AA.

New routes on the way...the long awaited MX), Mexico">MEX-LHR, the return to SA - Texas">DFW market a possible return to SCL and with that the establishment of a base in SA to make connection with Lan Chile as a partner to destinations in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay.

The arrival of the A318 and more B767s.

Remain as the leader in traffic in North America, increasing it's market share with its alliance with maybe AA.

Strategic partnership with Aeromar, just a guess.

Let’s also hope they move up from 60 planes to the 70s.

2. AeroMexico
Consolidation and integration with new partners in the US: CO & NW (once in Skyteam)...more destinations and a larger market share in North America.

Consolidation in Europe, hopefully the 777 and using the 767s to open new routes in Europe: BCN & AM), Netherlands">AMS.

A new order for more 737s to renew more planes.

Let’s hope they reach

3. Aerocaribe
A new LCC with a new name, maybe the F100 from MX.

4. Aerolitoral
Fully merged in AM and releasing some larger planes with smaller to offer more frequencies & destinations. Big growth.

5. Aeromar
I have a feeling they will become Mexicana’s regional carrier using EMB170s or equivalents. They will operate like United Express Carriers in the US or a similar approach and be painted in MX colors. Not a rumor, just a prediction or interesting comment. Freeing up MX planes to open more routes.

First of all: GREAT TOPIC!

Second, I think we all are expecting a great year in Mexico

Magnicharters should be getting more planes, hopefully more 733's or newer!

Azteca is said to be receiving 757's.

Aviacsa is also said to recieve 757's as well as 733's.

Hopefully new airlines will join the market, to make the ones already there more competitive.

I really think Mexico needs a good LCC. Never the less, I guess Mexicans aren't prepared for this type of airline, so it would be a total failure.
Cheap=f*cked up in Mexico!

More regionals should also make appearance, like Aerolamsa or Aerotucan, both of them flying as we speak! Aerocaribe did leave a big hole in the regional market!

I know I am not asking for much! (yeah right), but I really do hope at least half of what Jopavon and I wrote, becomes a reality!

Best wishes for everyone this new year!

More than mere "wishes" this is pretty much what will happen:

A318 for sure will join MX's fleet. I don't see MX joining Oneworld at least not in the first 3Q of the year. Yes, it is confirmed both MX and AM route expansion with 763 and 772 in Europe. AM will keep bringing the already ordered 737s and upon their performance, dispatch reliability and so forth will decide to order 738 or 739 as a substitute for the aging MadDog fleet. Not certain about what will happen with AeroLitoral; but I don't see them fully merged in AeroMexico at least during this year if they ever considered doing so. EMB-145's already in order but I dunno when will be delivered.

Aerocaribe will be getting a new name, corporate image and a LCC structure. At the end, they will not get MX's Fokkers (just got that information a couple days ago). I have no idea what MX will do with them now that the leasing contract is signed for some more years. They just got another DC-9-32.

Aviacsa will keep adding 732 (for a predicted total of 40 planes in the fleet)and before the year ends it will have either the 733/734. The 722 will finally leave the fleet well into 2005. Fuel prices and availability of aircraft will play an important role in the decision.

Aeromar must finally set a decision about RJ purchase/lease. The EMB-170 name has been mentioned several times. They are or will in the short term hire crews for them. Things are hot there.

Azteca is finally writing its finances in black ink. Interesting to see how they will they manage to expand. Getting the 757 has been a rumor ever since it started ops. 2004 seems that it will have the adequate conditions for it.

Allegro now in January will start ops in some Central-Mexico cities and will move crew, maintenance and a huge management staff to Mexico City. In the next two months, due to leasing and financial restructure it will make public a decision about newer flight equipment (NICE airplanes from some Asian operators are already considered and approached; sorry, can't say more).

Alex: Aerolamsa is not flying yet, despite what the Pilots Union bulletin stated on this month's edition (which I think is your source). They don't have the mentioned Beech 1900's yet. Aerotucan is operating a single C-208 Caravan so far. Don't see a lot of growth for them. I hope I'm wrong.

Aerocalifornia... I'm clueless; I do not hold any information about them yet so I don't want to misinform anyone.

My Wishes:

In terms of Airports:

- A new airport for Mexico City not a new ridiculous expansion that will give MEx 5 to 10 more years of life. BUT, this WON'T HAPPEN  Sad  Crying  Crying  Crying

- A new REAL commercial terminal expansion for GDL. A second parallel runway for GDL.

- Another new REAL commercial terminal expansion for MTY. A second parallel runway for MTY (for the future... I know it's not needed... but lets focus in the future... if not it will happen the same thing as Mexico City)

- A new terminal for TIJ.

- CUN airport being DOMINATED by the Mexican carriers....

My wishes for the airlines:

Openning MEx-LHR, MEx-MTY-FRA, MX), Mexico">MEX-CUN-MXP or FCO. Increase the A320 fleet to 30 (current 26), the B757 fleet to 12 (current 9) and getting the 9 B767s as planned. I see MX joining Oneworld by October.

Will get a new name, new corporate image.

New routes such as MEx-MTY-MAD and a new service MEx-BCN, MX), Mexico">MEX-AM), Netherlands">AMS. Hopefully new 737NG orders for 800 and 900 to come!

As Jopavon say, fully merged with AM. / Fly727 EMB-145's already in order but I dunno when will be delivered. / March 19/20/21 - 04 @ MTY. Start flying to MEx..... but that won't happen.......

Hopefully 757 for them by the 3Q.

More growth! And hopefully also 757 for them! (BTW, next Jan 15th they'll start a new route.. MEx-OAX.)

At least 5 ATR72's! Jets are needed! A new c/s is also needed!

Better days for them!

1st, I wish the best to all JR employees..... 2. Either they will make a fast renew with MD80s, or reduce their fleet to 7 DC9-32s (Stage III) or next December 31st, 2004 will be their last day in the air.

1 more 733 is scheduled this far.... something else... hmm.. at least 2 more 733s or 734s and more success for them.

Mas Air
Increase their fleet!

Return to the air with either a B757F or B767F... I don't like seeing all the cargo packages of the company going in MX, QA, VW, AM aircraft belly's .

A succesfull return to the skies. At least 2 Dc8s more for them!

A B767F to their fleet... (have you guys read in the news they are seeking for a 4th aircraft... the airline said they will either get an extra A300 and there are also high possibilities for a new aircraft type and replacement for the ageing 300s)

Finally................ at least 2 important new start-ups (with either 717 up to 777 or A318s up to A340s....)!!! More special liveries to spot.....!!!!

Wish the best for all of u!

I wish AM to increase frequency to DFW to make the AA monopoly less painful for the passengers' pockets. Also, I really hope MX joins OneWorld so that it can codeshare with AA and provide even more flights to DFW. Mexicana used to serve DFW and I miss the service, it was the best on board. I got to fly one of the last 727 services in 1993 to DFW on 03 Jan 93. The service was discontinued 3 days later if I am not mistaken. I will pray for MX return to DFW.

Ghost, I just joined A.Net a few days ago. I am very impressed with your postings and that motivated me to get involved in the discussions. This is my very first reply to a posting. My first posting was on 31 Dec 2003 titled "Aeromexico's Presence in DFW".

I was wondering.... maybe some fellow netters from the NYC area can help me out with this:

Being almost a fact that CO will join SkyTeam in 2004 or in the near future would be possible for AM to move to EWR? Are the slots there hard to get? Now that MX is out of Star Alliance and that it is approaching to Oneworld (AA = JFK) would a switch of airport between the Mexican carriers be of any good? Would it be technically possible? AM currently flies out of JFK, MX out of EWR. Would this change, at least for AM be of any good?

Since the airport is currently being expanded, we can say goodbye to a new Mexico City international airport. However, I wish that the expansion is completed within the scheduled time because right now parking and dropping passengers in the international terminal is a mess.

I also hope to see more AM flights to Europe, as well as new MX routes to Europe. I also wish that MX's MX), Mexico">MEX-EZE flight is profitable.

I would not like to see AM moving from JFK to EWR. I find AM's flight 404 to JFK very good because there is no traffic from JFK to Manhattan at the time it lands and taxis charge a a fixed fee of $35 to anywhere in Manhattan, so it is very convenient. I would like, however, to see MX increase its flights to New York City because, as I understand, MX's flight to EWR is only a few days a week, so maybe making it daily would be a nice thing to do (otherwise, the MX), Mexico">MEX-NYC market will be almost dominated by SkyTeam with possibly higher fares).

I know that Líneas Aéreas Azteca is getting one or two 752's and I wish them well. I have yet to fly with them, but I have heard they have a good service (and their fares are great).

I would like to see transcontinental flights from MTY (perhaps to FRA or CDG) and more scheduled flights to and from Europe in CUN (SpanAir is going to start flying to CUN from BCN or MAD, right?).

I wish we hear news soon that MX is joining oneworld. And that AM gets one or two 777's for its European destinations. I also wish for more European airlines flying to Mexican cities. It would be nice to have AZ flights from FCO or MXP.

I hope AM and MX start flying nonstop to new cities in the U.S., like SFO, BOS and IAD. And that AM increases its flights to DFW (using perhaps 737NG's). It would also be nice if AM replaced its Mad Dogs with 737NG's.

Finally, my wildest wish is for AM to acquire, even if it is in 7 or 8 years, a 7E7.

Happy New Year!!!

P.S. Oh, and if AM would install PTV's in its 762's flying to GRU, I would be a really happy camper.

Next flights: MEX-MZT AM E90; TIJ-MEX AM 788

Now that people are mentioning possible flights MTY-Europe.........this past week I fley CDG-IAH on Continental, the flight was packed with people flying the route and then continuing on to MTY, the same was true for the IAH-CDG flight in early December.........It looks like a Northern Mexico-Europe market is there so I wonder if AM or MX will create this route.

Hi everyone

Just joined the forums, and I was away of the aviation world for almost 20 years. The Airport esxpansion was planned since 1982 and the goal was that in 2002 + the new terminal would have 4 rwy's, and circular or semi circular gates, much like LAX. I used to have the plans for that project back then. Don't know where they are now. Will look for them.

Airport growth was a must then.

Today, it is imperative.

That is my wish.

That MEX has a REAL world class airport.

Saludos a todos

I hope Mexican carriers will have a big brake in 2004. I love those MX Aztec motif tails and AM's Caballero Aguila (is that right ?). I only hope that extra security related expenses won't put much stress on them.
Now that MX is leaving Star, would it start flying its own aircraft to Brazil ? Not to GRU as AM but maybe to REC or SSA ? That would be a great connecting point from US and Canada to the Brazilian resorts overpassing a connection in GRU.

Suerte !

That's right. It is a Caballero Águila painted on AM's aircraft. I also think it's pretty cool.

You are right that these additional security measures are costly for Mexican carriers. AM lost a substantial amount of money as a result of the cancellation of one flight to the U.S. upon the request of the U.S. government and delays in its flights to the U.S. resulting from thorough inspections of travelers and baggage by Mexican and American security personnel in Mexican airports. Just add the price of tickets AM had to buy to send their passengers on other carriers to their destination, plus food and lodging if necessary, etc. Huge loss. In addition, the delays and cancellations damage the perception that users have of airlines, even if the airlines are not the ones to be blamed. But hopefully this year will prove to be good for the Mexican air industry.

I agree with you that it would be sensational if MX started flying to Brazil too. Now that MX is flying to EZE and is bound to receive more 767's, it certainly looks like a possibility, although the codeshare agreement with RG remains despite MX's departure from Star Alliance. I am a bit unsure if MX could "sell" to the American and Canadian leisure travelers the idea of flying to MX), Mexico">MEX in order to connect to SSA or REC, but it certainly sounds feasible (and maybe MX could come up with some vacation packages and make it interesting for these tourists to stay for a couple of days in Mexico City on their way back home as part of their vacation). As you may recall, I was asking yesterday or two days ago about the possibility of flying to FOR from MIA, CCS or BOG and certainly a flight from MX), Mexico">MEX to a city such as Recife would be great.

Anyway, let's hope the best not just for MX and AM, but also for RG and JJ. I think they all deserve it.

P.S. Marcopolo747, I spent 10 days in Brazil (including New Year's Eve in Caraguatatuba); I had the best time of my life. It was my first time in Brazil. Your country is amazingly beautiful, Brazilians are really warm and friendly, and the food and the nightlife is incredible. I hope I will be back soon.

Hey welcome to the forums I'm glad you joined and I'm also glad my posts motivated you!. We need more people from Mexico and with more ideas! I really liked your proposal it would be good to see either MX going back to DFW or AM increasing frequencies.

You described a very interesting scenario! In case MX enters Oneworld I think they'll switch airports MX will start flying to JFK while AM to EWR.

Mexicana is doing really good on the their routes to YVR. MEx-GDL-YVR, MEx-MTY-YVR and MEx-YVR. The only route right it doesn't look that good is PDX.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you but the 777 is not planned for this 04. Maybe... maybe they'll bring it in December if not definitely next year. For now 767 fleet will change... (I'll answear that on the AM post you opened).

Please share with me those plans of the 1982 project! I'm REALLY INTERESTED IN.

I only hope that extra security related expenses won't put much stress on them.

Im also afraid of this my friend! In the short term it is affecting it will affect a lot to MX and AM. In the whole world Mexico is the coutry with the greatest number of departures to States in one day... (around 180 flights a day / around 1,250 flights a week). In the long term I see more mexicans willing to fly to Europe in a non-stop from Mexico., in the next flights I'm sure a lot of people will try to avoid a connection in the US (the one's who got a visa) or a US airline. Caballero Águila is correcT!

As a matter of fact, your question about flying to FOR gave me the idea of MX flying to northeastern Brazil.

Hola a todos from GDL

I am very impressed with the amount of replies for MX and AM posts.
I also agree with everything posted here, now, let me tell you a little bit about what has been going on in GDL.

I used to work for the State's Urban Development Ministry last period and myself being an urban planner and an aviation enthusiast, my job focused a lot on GDL's airport growth and related plans.
During 1995-2001, GDL became Mexico's Silicon Valley due to the high amount of High Tech companies that established here. Most of them from Korea, Japan, Taiwan. Many are gone now, but new ones have arrived.
During those 1997 government officials at a APEC summit mentioned intentions from Asian Carriers to start nonstop services to/from GDL due to its great location, right altitude for high load factors, weather and therefore profitability.

As we all know now, those fat cows days are gone now, but there is still a decent and frequent oriental visitors flow, and regular traffic of locals between Asia usually via LAX
So, just to add my two cents to this post, I would have to say.

1. A new runway for GDL and a REAL and SERIOUS expansion project for both the Passenger and cargo terminal. (unlike the present one and despite the new cargo airport to be built in Zapopan during the next 6 years).
2. Nonstop GDL to/from SIN, TPE, NRT. Maybe SQ could still be interested and it seems that despite MX rupture from Star, they will maintain business at some degree. Or……….
3. MX leasing an A340 (or 777) and go for it. That would turn MX into a real world class airline, and into our long awaited Flag carrier.
4. As for joining Oneworld, I really don’t think so. As I mentioned in a different post, I think MX is going big and that they do not really need to do that. As long as they keep business as usual with LH, AC, SQ. I think alliances are going to crack under their own weight.
Globalization has a big cost.

Wow, MX flying to Asia!!! Now that is a nice wish. AR is already doing that and RG has been flying to NRT for quite some time.

I lived in Chicago during 2002 and 2003 and I came to Mexico for Easter holidays in 2003. I flew MX ORD-GDL-MX), Mexico">MEX because I found an incredibly low Mex-e-Saver fare. Btw, the ORD-GDL leg was one of the last flights of MX's memorable 727's. I recall the GDL airport was under renovation (a much needed one) and I seriously hope that the airport's capacity is increased and its facilities modernized. I think that, as it was before my trip, it was totally subpar for the second city of the 13th world economy.

Therefore, I am amending my wish list to include the renovation and expansion of the GDL and MTY airports. Especially GDL.

Well...never is too late to express your best wishes for Mexican Aviation and its airlines all.
One wish is that more and more people in Mexico are able to travel by airplane, it would be a reflect of the mexican economy growth.
Another wish is that regional aviation takes off toward new and better horizonts, more destinations, better fleet, more schedules.
And my last wish goes for all fans of Mexican Aviation, have a wonderful 2004!

Marcopolo747 / EddieDude...Nowadays, I am in Sao Paulo Brazil for a time, I have been here since August and will be here until May or June. I am fascinated with the quality and content of the aviation magazines, some of them have a lot of local content which is really interesting. When Marcopolo747 said that: "Now that MX is leaving Star, would it start flying its own aircraft to Brazil ? Not to GRU as AM but maybe to REC or SSA ? That would be a great connecting point from US and Canada to the Brazilian resorts overpassing a connection in GRU." an interesting topic I red came to my mind: Brazil northeast likes to Europeans tourist (I think to everybody) but many of them do not travel to that region, because there are not regular direct flights to those destinations. A tourist from France, have to fly 12 hours from Paris to Sao Paulo, could wait 5 more hours in GRU, and then fly for another 4 (I believe is 4) hours to Salvador... it makes no sense for many of them, because the plane coming from Paris flies over Salvador, so a direct flight from Paris could be done in about 8 hours and not 20! wow...is not incredible? I think that only TAP have regular flights from Europe (Lisbon) to Recife or Fortaleza, and also red that TAP has found a good market on this routes.... So the idea of a Mexicana flight to Recife, Fortaleza or Salvador is really good. Tourists arriving in the evening flights from Europe or NorthAmerica to MX), Mexico">MEX could make an easy conneciton for a direct flight to the Brazil northeast and save a lot of time...mmm I love aviation.

I'm glad to find a topic which is nice and not confrontational and destructive, as the ones we've ben seeing lately with the happenings in Brazil. And since this is a topic of wishes, then it's nice for a change to fantasize. Here I go,

I wish AM or MX or Azteca or Aviacsa would hire me. It would be a good move for them and for Mexican Aviation as a whole.

I wish to see the Concorde back to MX), Mexico">MEX on a daily rotation to CDG

I wish AM and MX), Mexico">MEX would tap into that huge charter Mkt. there is in CUN mostly, but also in ACA and PVR. We got tons of ailiners from a mix of different airlines, from different parts of Europe. This is a potential source of EUROS for AM and MX), Mexico">MEX.

I wish to see nonstop flights from MTY to more places, specially in Europe. CDG, MAD, FRA, LHR, ZRH, AM), Netherlands">AMS, BRU, CO / LIRF), Italy">FCO, MUC, MXP, for a start. Why do you think CO's IAH hub and AA's DFW hub are so succesful ? They are carrying tons of traffic from Northern Mexico. The traffic generated on this route maybe thin, but high yield so if AM reconfigures some of 757 or even 737NG's with more premier seat, this would work. Maybe with a stop in Gander, though

I wish to see AM or MX fly to Bolivia. Santa Cruz or La Paz, but the fact is, there is traffic between Mexico and Bolivia that is being ignored. I would assing this route to MX

I wish to see a flight to GIG, too

In terms of fleet, it's time for the Mad Dogs to go. They should be substituted for 737NG

A second runway in MTY in not neede. Ther already is a crosswind one. But the momen a second parallel one is needed, it will be built, because MTY is a private airport and managed by Aeroports de Paris.

These are my wishes. Hi to everyone and thanks Jopavon for a great post!

My wishes?

01.- Real competiton traduced into most accesibles fares for everyone here in Mexico... fares are really expensive in domestic flights, so I wish fares can get a little bit cheaper, that's the only way to get more and more people into the planes.

02.- Non stop flights by Mexicana between MEx & LHR... that's because I love London & it will be nice to use my frecuenta miles to fly over there (it's my wish, remember).

03.- More and more flights to Europe not only by mexican carriers but also by european carriers... Mexico is a great market, a lot of tourism & business travellers come to this beautiful country & sometimes there's only a choice to come connecting in the USA.

04.- New planes & a nicer livery for AeroCalifornia!!!!!!!!!.

and finally 05.- More avioncitos fans from Mexico in airline.net!!!!!, It's great to read all your posts.

25 JoseMEX : My wishes? For AM to enter a code-share agreement with JK from MAD to other domestic destinations, so that I can fly AM all the way from MAD to OVD (
26 Post contains links and images Ghost77 : If JAL can paint Disney characters on their aircraft, why can't AM or MX paint "El Chavo" characters on theirs? (Just imagine: "Ladies and gentlemen,
