Virgin Atlantic is bringing a 747-400 into MSY this afternoon. VS 9923 is currently showing an arrival time of 1:19PM. It is bringing in passengers that will be boarding a cruise ship in New Orleans, and will be loading cruise ship passengers finishing their own cruises.

School must still be out.....

Simply a heads up for those of us who work at MSY, have ramp access, and haven't seen a VS 744 here in the 17 years we've worked here.

P&O Cruises from the United Kingdom have a few cruises going from MSY in the next two months. Aircraft they will use will be Britannia Airways - Boeing 767 300, Thomas Cook & Monarch Airbus A330-200.

These are charter flights  Smile

Kimberly.

GKirk: you got that right! Which is why we let the locals know when something out of the ordinary is showing up.

VS Girl: thanks for the future heads-up! Thomas Cook and Monarch will be new ones for us, as well.

New Orleans has a rapidly growing cruise ship industry, and these charters are proof that there is foreign interest in those cruises.

I was in the final planning stages of a cruise ex-New Orleans last year before I had to cancel, unfortunately.

Can't think of a much better place to spend a couple of days before or after the cruise than New Orleans (even if I do usually get screwed at Harrahs).

Of course, I'm arriving in nothing more exotic than a WN 737!  Big grin

G-VROY arrived at 1330 local. Met up with ConcordeBoy and MSYTristar during its stay here. Took the tour inside the aircraft. He left 2 hours, 45 minutes late due to container problems.

It was a charter flight for Swan Hellinic Cruise Lines.

The aircraft parked at gate C-11....on departure, it used only around 8500ft. of runway, which is pretty impressive since it had 400+ passengers on it. Climbout was slow, and it quickly dissapeared into the low ceiling.

It was an incredible experience getting to see the aircraft load, push back, and depart, all from the great vantage point of the ramp.

Container problems... ha!  Laugh out loud

Stupid A340s have to screw even this up.... one of the LD3s read "for A340-600 only", but they had to put it in or else leave it. Well, took 'em nearly 3hr to fit the mug into the aircraft.

Once they did, it was great though.

Gotta love the tower transmissions: "New Orleans tower, this is the Virgin requesting an opening on runway one zero..." (shweet! Big grin)

Amazing how quickly she got up on her takeoff roll, considering that she was full of both pax and payload. Guess fuel must've been relatively light. Shot off the runway with at a max of 8500ft.

Good stuff  Big thumbs up

Sent you an email with all the proper demographics. Thanks a ton!

Did most of them (particularly the night pics) show up well?

'for A340-600 only' means that those containers are suitable for the A340-600. It's a mistake that it says the 'only' bit. Some small differences I guess, but those containers are OK for the 744 (& 343)

The TSA were quite nasty to the pax and crew apparently.

So did the inbound crew fly out on the same aircraft (deadhead is the word isn't it?) and VV for the outbound crew, or were they flown over from another VS station?

Also, what sort of cargo would be on a charter such as this, would it have to be booked a while in advance?

I'm not a fan of the TSA here....heck, they are nasty to everyone!

The flight attendants cheered up once I gave them some New Orleans goodies...they seemed to really appreciate that....I made it a point to let them know that they are always welcome back here. If the TSA didn't do it, I made sure they saw SOME Southern hospitality at least!

Monarch Airbus A330-200

sent an email to Monarch... apparently, they only do intra-Euro flights, and according to this person (to whom I have no idea what level of accuracy should be assumed) they have no intention of deviating from that at this point

Sadly, no, I did not get on the 744 because I had to run to our gate to work our flight. If I I had 10 more minutes, I would have got on.

Alas, someone out there doesn't want to see me get on a 747. Real poor.
