Do you know if ELECTRA AIRLINES still exists ?

Since March 2002 one of their DC10 is stored (parked or blocked ??) at Abidjan Airport (ABJ) Ivory Coast.
I think they went bankrupt.

If you've some news about that, thanks for your investigations !

I saw an Electra Airlines DC10 take off from Manchester in November 2002, presumably operating on behalf of another carrier so they kept going at least a little longer after the arrival of the aircraft you mention at ABJ.

Unfortunately, I do not know if they still operate either. I sure someone can enlighten us.

Like a fine wine, one gets better with age.

So, I try my best to help you out...

To my knowledge Electra Airlines lost its license on June 20th. 2003.

But, I heard rumors, that Electra-managers are behind new Greek operator GREECE AIRWAYS, operating SX-BLV a B757-200.

Capital146:

You're right, I think I've made a mistake: their DC10 is stored at ABJ since March 2003.

Electra Airlines were operating for Air Scotland but not long after the company started, they pulled out of using them and changed to Air Holland but I haven't heard of them since then.

An Electra DC10, similiar to the one pictured, spent a lot of hours sitting on the ground at BRU a few years ago.

Greece Airways was build on the 'remainings' of the former Electra Airlines (although at Air-Scotland they deny this, wonder why Smile/happy/getting dizzy)

Anyone know if Electra was related to "Skyjet" who's DC10s flew in the same colour scheme in the late 1990s.

Had the "pleasure" of flying one of their DC10s when it was operating MCO-MAN for Excalibur in 1996. Didnt actually fly it in the end, but it was not a pleasent experience anyway.

If memory serves Skyjet were based somewhere in Belgium with aircraft registered in Antigua?? (Would tie in with Dutchjets comment about one being at BRU). Seems as though they could be connected?

Are Air Scotland mad? They sack Electra for being so poor, then hire the "same" people a year later?? Ok they have a TCX 757 but thats only a winter lease...

jmc757 Big thumbs up

@Jmc757

1. To my knowledge ELECTRA was linked to Skyjet (part of the Skyjet-family)

2.Are Air Scotland mad? They sack Electra for being so poor, then hire the "same" people a year later??

well, not at all... I don't understand it either! But ,again, to my knowledge AirScotland decided in co-operation with ex ELECTRA-staff to found this new company! So behind of Greece Airways is AirScotland themselves
