Can anybody let me know if FOR is an international airport? I am asking because I might need to fly from MEX to FOR in February and want to avoid connecting at GRU. I am hoping there is a flight to FOR from PTY or from BOG. Even from MIA. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

FOR is an international airport but the only international flights operating to FOR are Europe bound charters. The only scheduled flight is TAP daily to Lisbon.

The best alternative I can think of, would be MEX-CCS-MAO-FOR but that would involve changing planes in CCS and MAO. RG flies CCS-MAO once a week and LB flies CCS- MAO twice a week. There are 5 daily flights between MAO and FOR and they include at least one stop at BEL. The route in flown by JJ/RG (codeshare), G3 and VP.

Good luck

I don't think you have any better option. Connection through GRU is the fastest way to get to FOR from MEX.

Before thier drastic cutbacks, concentrating almost all long-haul flying out of GRU (with the exception of FRA-GIG), Varig flew from Fortaleza to Miami and Milan.

You could also take LAB from MIA to MAO and connect on TAM to FOR. MIA-MAO only operates on certain days of the week, but here is a sample itin:

1 LB 903C 07JAN W MIAMAO SS1 835P 235A 08JAN
2 JJ3893Y 08JAN Q MAOFOR SS1 500A 1100A

According to Jan skeds, LB903 operates on Wed/Sat and JJ3893 operates daily, although it makes a stop in BEL.

Thanks a lot for the info. I would have thought there were MIA-FOR or CCS-FOR flights. It is really bad that the northeast of Brazil is not well communicated with the rest of Latin America. Anyway, non-stop flights from GRU to FOR are only 3 hours and 10 minutes, and most flights from MEX to GRU are night flights, so perhaps going to GRU first is not so bad after all.

Again, thanks a lot to everybody.
