I just flew this rego from sydney too honolulu. what a total disgrace too the airline..
alot of windows didnt evan have shades. they where broken or missing entirely.
water poured out of the roof over row 41, with two pax having too "put up thier umbrellas"
two toilets where non functional. the aircon was busted. there was a large gape along the right hand side floor at the wall from about down too doors right 3 , and a pax dropped her passport which fell into the hole and down into the underfloor so could not be retrieved.. when the flight engineer examined this "gape" he noticed large amounts of used spoons and forks. stale food, and headsets had all dropped down as well.
their where a large number of seats which didnt recline. or didnt stay up and about 2 seats had thier backs completing missing with the broken back just left in the over head lockers..
two over head compartments down near left 5 where broken so the pax couldnt get their bags out on landing in HNL.
I was shocked at the state of this aircraft. if i was a paying passenger I would be demanding my money back. Completely unacceptable for a top rate airline.

It will no doubt please you that VH-EBX will very soon be entirely revamped, with new interior linings, seating, IFE and so on. VH-EBT and EBY are already completed.

That's no surprise!!!!

I know Qantas is known as a "Safe" carrier BUT Qantas isn't the carrier they used to be. It all happened back in the 90's when the Government didn't want anything to do with carrier & handed it over to the public.

Mr Dixon & his SAVE money tactics!

I'm planning my next trip to Europe in August this year & I haven't planned to fly Qantas, guess who I'm flying EMIRTATES!!!

Miami1 if I was you I would as for my money back.

Miami1 - being a flight attendant (as per your profile) and im sure I know who you work for - why dont you contact customer relations - speak to Kaye or her team and raise your concerns. Its a very average site for our passengers our ageing equipment in such as state of disrepute.

QF customers deserve better than these now a days standards - even if it is a mostly Y class flight to the holiday Isle of HNL.

Cheers

So sad. Qantas is such a good airline when it comes to travel. I guess no airline is perfect. This is one example of that.

Not the airline they used to be??? That's exactly right, they are bigger than ever, employ more Australians than ever, fly more people than ever, have a larger fleet than before, won in-flight entertainment awards etc etc

The government didn't want anything to do with them so they injected $1.35 billion in new capital, merged them with Australian and successfully floated them off. It's called business plus the government privatised just about everything they could get their hands on back then.

"Mr Dixon & his SAVE money tactics!"

Well considering he's revamping interiors of the 747's plus buying A380's, A330's, A320's and 737's its not as if he aint spending the money he's saving.

"guess who I'm flying EMIRTATES!!!"

I assume you mean Emirates. The new boys on the block always get better press from the Australian media.

So tell me how many employees are PERMANENT "FULL TIME" staff working for Qantas and I'm not talking about CONTRACTORS here!

You should have a look behind the seens if you think Qantas is such a great carrier, making cost cuts everywhere possible.

Hi,

Dixon has probably spent more money in the past 12 months than QF spent under the James Strong years.

QF have upgraded the IFE and Interiors on all 744s, with 2 of the 6 743s already been upgraded.

QF have also upgraded the seating/interiors on all 737 aircraft thats about 50 aircraft.

QF are also fitting Skybed and upgrading F cabins in all 744s.

From mid this year all A330s will feature upgraded biz seating as well as new interiors/IFE in economy for Intl use. (replacing 763s)

So as you can see QF are spending more than any other airline on new products and services. The only problem is it takes time to upgrade just about every aircraft in the QF fleet.

Miami1: I agree with you that this is not acceptable for an airline like Qantas, but you must realise that this aircraft is one of the oldest in the QF fleet and about to be fully refurbished. Probably the last to be as it flies on less 'blue ribbon' routes, but nevertheless, somethings about to be done about it.

It really annoys me when people say that Qantas is not the airline it used to be..I've been flying them for 2 decades and I can honestly say that they are currently now better than ever. Rather than dwell in the cutbacks of the 90s, Qantas has spent a huge amount of money in recent years buying new planes and refurbishing their products-Economy is now FINALLY up to world class standards as are J and C classes, BRILLIANT Qantasclub lounges. Service has noticeably improved over recent years, new uniforms, etc. All this in the face of the worst worldwide downturn in the industry ever. There has been cost cutting, but much of it has been to improve efficiency. You can't say that their inflight products have suffered as a result. (apart from perhaps the state of this aircraft, which will be addressed shortly). And don't knock James Strong too much. His leadership, although characterised by cutbacks in the 90s enabled the carrier to score strong enough profits to make the current new spending possible.

Emirates is a great carrier. (somewhat over-rated) But I would still fly Qantas any day.

cheers,

Qantasclub.

QF employed 34,000 full time equivalents the largest number in its history. The trend to casualisation of the workforce isn't confined to any 1 company in Australia and to make some sort of conclusion about QF because they might employ more casuals than before is stupid. Plus considering post Ansett expansion of QF I'd say that all the new pilots, FA's etc would be full time employees. So not only is the total workforce bigger, but the number of full time employees in the direct flying operations of the company have also increased.

"You should have a look behind the seens if you think Qantas is such a great carrier, making cost cuts everywhere possible."

If I have a look behind the scenes all I see is one of the worlds most profitable carriers, run by an increasingly efficient workforce, that work on planes that are having new interiors installed, new menus created and award winning in-flight entertainment. (Plus what Beno said above) If you don't like that then dont fly them, you can always go Air Canada to Hawaii.

Uh-oh...I'm flying to HNL in a week!

No, really, I think that's rare for Qantas (their 400s are very nice). I did just read, however, that they're beginning a revamp on the 300s in the coming year. That should be good...

Wouldn't the Sydney-Honolulu be better seved by a daily A330-200/300 service once QF has sufficient number of them???

sounds rather far fetched to me, if Qantas is so safe do you really think they would put this a/c in the air in that state!

EK413,
you can have Emirates, i won't fly with them even if you gave me a free ticket, family have travelled on them and were rather shocked at the crap premium class product out of Perth.
