The shot was taken with a fisheye lens which lends some distortion to the actual image. I've sat in this seat before and there is a lot room than with regular economy class seats. I am about 5'10" and my knees are about 8" from the seat in front when I'm seated.
The recline of the forward seat is not too bad. You don't feel like you're that closed in when the seat back is reclined.
Try it before you knock it. It's not the best picture to judge the comfort of the pitch of the seats.
