Strange thing is, I just flew this plane last Sunday from Delhi to Amsterdam. I had no idea any MD-11 was going to be being re-painted anytime soon. Does anybody know what was her last flight was in the old colors?

I think there is too much blue on it. However, there is no doubt that it is going to look stunning floating over maho beach to land at SXM.

Good news and bad news!
Good news: seems like MD-11 will be around for a while @ KLM. Hope to see it @ MIA for a few more years!
Bad News: I REALLY don't like the new KLM paint job vs. the old one! The old one was one of my absolute favorites!

Ealsys1, I feel quite the opposite. I love KLM's new colore scheme. The new blue looks just marvelous on the MD-11. If you ask me, the lighter you make blue, the more beautiful it becomes. I can't explain why I feel this way. However, I definently like light blue as opposed to dark blue. The new color scheme for KLM I think is great. Now, if only we could see the first NW DC-10 in the new colors.

Hello,
The last flight in the old colors for the PH-KCI was as follows: It was the KL0872 arriving from DEL, the early morning of 4th of January 2004 around 06:00 a.m. with 284 passengers. The first flight in new colors: it was the KL0691 departed to YYZ, in the afternoon of 11th of January 2004 around 02:10 p.m. with 265 passengers.
One of the reasons of a new color scheme: it's cheaper to add this one, then the old one. The old one was blue, dark blue, white and grey. The new one is blue, dark blue and white. The dark blue cheat line is much shorter and the grey color is totally gone. So it's cheaper to paint. Maybe other people can provide information about the reason?
As other people allready mentioned before. It too a while to get used to the new colors, but now I think it looks superb!!!

SPL,
Thanks for the info, much appreciated. So I was on the last flight in the old colors on this plane. Never would have thought I would be the last WBC pax out on that bird in the old colors. If only I would have known. The plane looked in excellent condition inside, would never have thought it was her turn.
As far as the new colors go, I did not see any need for a change, but the new one has grown on me a bit now. It really looks good on the MD-11, still not as great as the old one.

Thank you for the link, SR 103!
Looks like a very nice colour scheme indeed! When I saw first time KLM's new colours I hated them, but nowadays my eyes are more used to that bright blue and I find it very attractive livery.
The new colour of MD-11 is absolutely better than the old one, but I don't like of that white tail engine... Finnair had the same problem when they painted the new colours on their MD-11s, but luckily they has nowadays added "Finnair MD-11" - stickers on the both sides of the tail engine. Why couldn't KLM do something like that too...? Just my 2 cents...
