I remember when I was growing up in the 1980's, I always saw TransAmerica 747's at DFW. I never got to fly them. I am wondering if they offered scheduled or charter service? Did anyone ever fly on them? What was it like?

I flew them in 1982, my first trip to Europe, from JFK to ZRH. I believe it was a 747-100 (maybe 200 series). I remember it being a great flight. Landing in Zurich was quite a beautiful sight for my young eyes!

I flew an American Trans Air DC8 charter from Chicago ORD to Shannon, Ireland roundtrip in the summer of 1982.
I remember the plane being crowded, long maintenance delays, sitting next to a nun who was upset with my behavior, beautiful-to-even-a-7-year-old tanned flight attendants and a big green T on the tail.

TV used to be a frequent visitor to HNL. As far back as I can recall, from the 70s to the mid-80s. I don't recall them having scheduled flights, since they were classified as a charter airline. I know some of their flights passing through HNL were military. I'm guessing the rest were for tour charters. I recall seeing even the old "TIA" on the DC-8's tails. The last I saw of them were DC-10-30s @ HNL and OAK.
What was the cause of their demise?

Don't recall whether they appeared in the OAG, but they did publish a schedule all right. The one I have says all their scheduled flights were DC-8s; dunno if the DC-10s and 747s ever did fly scheduled flights.
