Alaska, Tons Of Point To Point!

I know AS has always flown quite a bit of point to point, but their route structure really must rule the west coast. There are quite a bit of flight in their system that do not connect through the hubs. For instance:
YYC-LAX
RNO-LAX
SFO-LAX
OAK-SNA
SFO-Mexican Resort cities.
SMF-PSP
SFO-PSP
SUN-OAK
GEG-LAX

These are just some examples and some are operated by QX. There are more routes however that I didn't list. But it just amazes me how much point to point AS is now offering. For those of you interested in looking around for yourself (those of you who don't know) AS offers downloadable time tables like other airlines if your interested in browsing the schedules. Im also interested to know how many AS planes can be at LAX during some of their bussiest times of the day (Not sure if they use banks there) Any comments welcome!

Flyboy, we do use banks in LAX. We have 4 banks of flight in LAX to work with our Mexico flights. We also run a few flight in between banks. This morning at 10am I show 8 planes on the ground. Mostly going to Mexico. Point to Point is the wave of the future it seems and also avoids major problems if one of our hubs is down for weather. Just like this week when PDX was down and SEA was down we still had some major problems though. I can only see the point to point growing. You missed a few I though of on the top of my head.
SFO-TUS,SJC-TUS,SJC-BOI,SJC-PSP,YVR-PSP,LAS-YVR,PHX-YVR,YVR-ANC seasonal, some of these also are done by QX......look in the future at possible SFO-SAN,SFO-GEG,SFO-CUN.

Please, please, PLEASE let us see more lift to and from CUN! One flight a day doesn't cut it in that market.

Especially for us nonrevs.  Big grin

EA CO AS: A two-part "true or false" question you may be able to answer:

At one time (2003 Winter-Spring schedule?) Alaska had planned for two daily flights each way LAX-CUN... or 3-4 weekly frequencies in addition to their daily roundtrip?

Does anyone know/guess if AS might ever try LAX-OAK? As for LAX-SFO there isn't much frequency on the route...

Hey R...Rumors are rampet here that we will see the SFO-CUN soon after the 739 gets the over water equipment in. Let me know the min. you here something. I'm actually going there next week and it pethetic I have to fly CO there cause I can't connect on my own airline. What a joke! On the SAN service from what my manager told me was before the F9 thing there was a good chance. Now there are not enough CR7's, its chance is not to good. Take care, hope PHX is treating you well.

Tango-Bravo:

Actually, I had a copy of the proposed schedule that involved PDX-SFO-CUN service to complement the existing SEA-LAX-CUN service. It was supposed to be announced several months ago but was shelved for...well, apparently no reason, save for perhaps TZ starting that route as well (even though they only fly on Saturdays).

Does anyone know/guess if AS might ever try LAX-OAK?

AS once served LGB-OAK, but LAX-OAK is served by 6 UA flights and 22 WN flights. Odds are we'll avoid that market.

That's kind of a funny statement when you toss it against airline history.

Have a great trip, J. Where are you staying in CUN? The Melia? We get a great rate there, and it's a gorgeous hotel.

Thanks for the replys guys... Greatly appriciated! Here in EUG we even have a little point to point of our own in the form of EUG-MFR-LAX (CR7) and EUG-LAX (CR7) However EUG-LAX will be done shortly and all flights will be through Medford, OR. I'm wondering if QX will open any new routes out of EUG ever. I guess all the northern traffic basically goes through PDX, or SEA, so I think a EUG-GEG or EUG-BOI is probably completey un-realistic. In my own opinion. AS is really special to the people for an air carrier out here on the west coast and I really hope they continue to grow. My last trip on AS was great (There's a trip report if you're interested) And I've always thought of them as a great carrier with their "better than average" service, and if you sit in the back on the 737s you can pick up some extra legroom! I'll continue to check this post, and I love to hear everyones opinions!

Flyboy...thanks for the good words on AS. We all thank you! A lot of people up in the NW and PDX specially seem to enjoy bashing AS more then compliment us. Specially in regards to PDX expansion and realizing it may not happen. We run a business and don't start new service if its not there. EUG looks like regionals to SEA/PDX/MFR for now. Maybe we will see a little more one day.

It would be cool to see maybe SJC-LAX/SAN on AS some day. With the build up of flights out of LAX to Mexico, there could be good opptys for connect passengers since Mexico service from SJC is only seasonal.

Since AA moved out of the old TWA terminal in LAX, how many more gates did AS obtain from that?

Unless I'm mistaken, all the gates at T3 in LAX are "common use," so anyone can make use of them at any time. AS just happens to use more of them than anyone.  Big thumbs up

All gates at T3 are common use except 30,31A,31B,31C,and 32..those do belong to AS. The CSM (Len) has been trying for 2 more with no luck. Thats what the SOM a friend of mine told me. I'll talk to him soon and ask him.

I didn't know that. Well, I hope AS adds more flights through LAX, especially north-south routes.

Alaska Airlines is actually my favorite airline to fly. Someone name me an airline that still serves a hot breakfast on a route as short as SEA-OAK. Unfortunately, AS hasn't taken over the world. AA is my second-favorite and the most convenient for me. I'm glad AS and AA have a pretty intimate relationship.

Keep up the good work, Alaska!!!!

I don't think that any of the BOI flying could be called point to point....BOI is considered a hub for QX.

But there is also a lot of p2p in Alaska - KTN-WRG/SIT/JNU, OTZ-OME...etc
