UA did operate to both in the past with mainline jets. Nice that they're at least getting some service back. I'd fly the route from IAD.
Seems a bit long without IFE or anything special!
People fly on DL,NW,AA and WN and many airlines on much farther routes with no IFE. Its no big deal.

Just curious where you got this info. I keep a check on the Yahoo Airline/Aviation News board and also the individual airline websites but see no mention of new service yet.
Travelocity and United's online electronice downloadable timetable are showing a new CRJ route twice daily BHM-DEN service but it isn't on a press release that I can find either.
Seems like the airlines would really want to tout these new services on their own website press release areas at least.

UA's timetables. New service is usually put into timetable a good week or two before it is announced. AA's new BOS-MBJ service was in timetables for more than a month before any PR.

They flew IAD-AUS with 735 aircraft for a while but cancelled it after 9/11 if i'm not mistaken. It has not been flown in a year or more at the very least. Someone correct me if i'm wrong....

This RJ thing is getting out of hand. If I was a paying passenger. I wouldn't pay to fly on a RJ for two, three or four hour flight.

Soon, all flights will be RJ connecting to Intercontinental widebodies.
At least they add to potential nonstop routes that may make $$.
I remember some AA exec saying with RJs, you could make a Dallas-Pocatello,ID route profitable. Adds to possibilities.
Really love mainliners, but also love more choices for nonstops!

Far from it, in my opinion. Passengers want nonstop flights and these planes can do the trick. Now where are the San Antonio-SFO and -IAD flights?

That is you. The majority of the flying public could not care less. The RJ craze is not going anywhere.

FF'ers do not represent the majority of the flying public.
No, but I guarantee you that they make up the majority of airline revenue.
I think the RJ trend is starting to taper off. AA has restored mainline service on some routes, and I've heard that other airlines plan on doing so as well. Nevertheless, I still think RJs are here to stay. AA still has plenty of RJs on routes such as DFW-CLE, DFW-CVG and even DFW-MSP.
When it comes to the flying public, most probably don't care all that much. It really boils down to whether you'd rather have a non-stop or fly on a big jet. I was shocked when AA partially went to RJs on DFW-MSP, but then again, would I rather connect through ORD? Probably not. Frequent fliers will complain a lot, rightfully, but for most of them time is the biggest factor. If an RJ gets them home to their families more quickly, they will probably deal with the slightly cramped space.

Majority? I doubt it. They make up a greater proportion of revenue for thier smaller numbers, but I doubt they make up the majority. I.e., FF'ers may represent 15% of an airline's customers and 35% of thier revenue.

I remember flying SFO-AUS the weekend before 9-11. It was an A320. Nice service. SFO had IAH and I think a SAT flight as well.
I agree, thats a long way for an RJ. But its the big RJ, and if its Mesa, its the ones with F class. Granted there is no IFE, but is there really any on the 737s that flew those routes? And I dont consider Madonna's greatest hits on a 737's audio system to be IFE.

good to see these routes re-instated. Are there many CR7's flying in UA colors right now, or are these among the first few?
