What airlines are currently providing hot towels to all passengers. I just saw hot towel mentioned in another thread and it made me think; I did not receive a hot towel on a NW DTW-FRA flight last month. I have received them on DTW-AMS on KL. Does KL still hand them out?

I also received a hot towel on an Atlantic Coast flight from TOL-CVG last year. I thought that was odd because it's a regional jet and the flight was 40 minutes. Never the less I liked receiving it, thought it was a nice touch. Is this a practice for all Atlantic Coast flights?

I think SQ had that for my flights between JFK-FRA, AMS-EWR, FRA-SIN, SIN-AMS and SIN-DAC

I got the same on MH between SIN and KUL -- but that was on business class.

I got two on a YUL-AMS KLM flight about three years ago. The 747-300 was great. They kept feeding us too, I was quite surprised.

It seems to be pretty popular. Though I don't see how it's very necessary on a short flight, I can see it on a longer flight so you can freshen up a bit. For that reason I think they should be given out at the end of the flight instead of the beginning. But it adds a nice touch.

As a joke I've always wanted to pull out a pair of tongs to grab it from the FA. hehehe

The first airline which introduced Hot Towel Service was Japan Airlines something like 50 years ago!

Nice gesture.

Aaaahhh, Ze Hot Towel discussion! Allow me to share with you my
hot towel knowledge/application of said knowledge when I flew as an FA.

Hot Towel Service

1. DO ensure the coffee/teapot is rinsed and clean prior to boiling water for
the hot towel service. Pax would not appreciate hot towels with coffee
grinds or tea leaves.

2. DO'NT discard the hot towel supply in the galley waste bin or lav bins,
and proceed to tell the in-charge "it's all done!" just because you and
your fellow crew members just don't feel like doing it today because
you're all simply exhausted from the layover y'all just had.

3. Remove the plastic cover seal from the hot towel trays PRIOR to pouring
the hot water over them. And yes, this HAS happened.

4. Ensure the water IS hot prior to pouring on the towels (unless of course
this is a cold towel service for Caribbean inbound sectors). Pour the
hot water GENTLY and EVENLY over the hot towels. Do NOT SATURATE
the towels with boiling water. The idea is to refresh the pax, not soak
them. (Note: Unless of course there is one or two pax who have
annoyed you during the course of the flight. It is then left to the
discretion of the FA "towel person" whether or not he/she wishes to
"soak the pax silly". It is also not advised to subsitute hot towels with
sanitary napkins from the lavs. Pax do know the difference between
the two, and some may not appreciate your or your fellow cabin crews
ill-attempt at "givin the pax a good laugh".

5. FA TOWEL TIP: For that extra "zing" to those hot towels, place 2 or 3
fresh lemon slices in the coffee/teapot, then fill the pot with boiled water.
Let the water with lemon slices sit for approximately 2-3 minutes, then
gently pour over the towels. This will create a "lemon scented" hot
towel. The pax will appreciate it and love you forever. It is not
recommended that FA's substitute lemon slices with, say, leftover onion
slices/pieces found on the used pax TSU (tray set up) from the meal
service.

6. Now, your hot towels are ready to be served to the pax! Nervous?
No need to be. Remember to ensure your tongs are CLEAN before leaving
the galley area. Start hot towel service at the "top" of your assigned zone.
"work to meet" the FA in the opposite zone (and if on a widebody, the
same AISLE in the opposite zones).

7. Smile and look each pax in the eye when offering the hot towel.
"Sir/Madam, would you care for a refreshing towel?" With your
tongs, gently lift one towel above the tray and "let it unfold" prior
to handing it to the pax. USE THE TONGS, NOT YOUR FINGERS!
Yes, this has happened. Do NOT roll your eyes or give pax a
"what are ya, retarded?" look if asked "what are they for?".
NOTE: WARN THE PAX TOWELS ARE HOT! Do not wait for pax
to scream out in pain "what the F**K man!". It is advised to
review the location of your on-board first-aid kit should first or
second degree burns result from your bloody stupid service
techniques.

8. Once completed with hot towel distribution in your zone, immediately
proceed to the top again for pick-up....WITH THE TONGS. Or, advise
the pax to place the used towel ON THE TRAY. Do NOT roll your eyes
or make a "what the F**K?" face if you happen to see pax using their
hot towels to:
1. Clean their bare feet.
2. Clean their ears.
3. Clean their crotches or underarms. YES, this has happened.
4. Wipe their snotty nosed brats (children) faces and other areas.

FA: "Did you enjoy your refreshing towel? Good, I am so pleased".

THERE! You're all done! Congratulations, you are an UBER flight attendant
who really knows the fine art of "hot towelling"!!

I LOVE a Hot Towel Service- its just so much more refreshing than the Chemically Drenched Square in a Packet Service.... VS hasnt been hot towelling for a number of years now, and I quite miss it. They scented it with some sort of aromatherapy thing and it was lovely, right after take off....

I think I got HTS on a KLM flight AMS-VCE the other year, but I cant remember. That was a comfy flight though, on a Fokker something or other, nice sandwich ( even orange bread! what DONT the Dutch think of ! ) sweet attendants, clean plane. KLM is definitely enjoyable, though ive never tried one of their transatlantic services at all- mainly cause you are more than likely to get stuck on a NW plane and those I dont really like too much at all.

LOL, now, y'all just KNOW the pax are bored as hell on a long trans-atlantic
flight when their eyes collectively light up at the sight of hot towels being served. "Oh, look! They're serving those towels!" You really had to refrain from uttering such customer service friendly phrases such as "get out much?".
I can clearly recall some pax truly upset for being in the lav during the HT service and missing out on receiving one. "ReLAX, sister, there's more in the galley."

I read in a recent HKG-TPE-HKG trip report that the hot towels have been shelved on CX for that sector due to fears over the potential re-emergence of SARS.

We hand them out on every single flight here at ACA, on our Delta Connection flights ONLY, not UAX. That's time and turbulence permitting of course. Our passengers love it and never expect it on any RJ. Even if I don't have time to pull out that cart. I'll just hand out lil' bottles of water and the towels are a must for our inlfight service.
