Why No Direct TV On F9's 318's?

Can anyone explain why the FAA has not approved F9's use of Direct TV on the new 318's? There should not be much of a difference between the 319 and 318.
Regards

That is wierd...you would expect it to be important to have entertainment for people who ride the short bus.

I flew on Frontier's grizzley bear A318 back in August and was surprised they didn't have the TV's working yet, but understood since it was still really new to the fleet. I'm even more surprised if they're still not using them this late after delivery. What's the point of paying for back of the seat screens if they're not used?

We're having this same discussion on a Frontier stock board.

The guess - and it's only a guess - is that, because the A318 is "new" type, the FAA is holding back approval until they have more info.

N801FR has been fitted with all the equipment, and we're guessing that it has to fly for a specific period of time without incident before it's approved.

It's been five months since N801FR started flying, so maybe it's a six months trial?

As I say, this is all guesswork, and I'd welcome any information that isn't a guess.

cheers

Frontier is expecting to have the 318 service up by the third week in Feb.

Hope this helps

Well, the best part is getting the voucher card for free TV on future F9 flight.
Going from Denver to Portland w/o the TV was a long and boring trip.
At least I'll plan a longer trip to take all advantage of the free card. DEN-ANC, perhaps.

UAL747DEN:

That does help, thanks.

It also seems to confirm the discussion about the FAA. N801FR entered service end of July. Six months from then would be end of January.

Allowing a couple of weeks for LiveTv to be installed in the other 318's would fit your timetable.

SprxflySWA:

Since very few airlines offer tv ife in Y class, you must have some very boring flights.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

But I'd use that voucher card soon, if I were you. There are strong rumors that Frontier will drop the $5 charge for LiveTV when they inroduce PPV movies.

cheers

My IFE is the latest Tom Clancy novel. You should try it. I recommend Debt of Honor.
