B737 On MTY-JFK Route

I just saw in Travelocity that the a/c listed for this flight is now a 737-700. It used to be an MD-87 and the frequency has been increased to 5 times/week. Does anyone know any details on why this was changed? Is this route doing well? It's very convenient to have this flight for us Norteños (de Saltillo) so I hope it is here to stay.
