Once the largest Latin American Charter carrier, dominating (along with Sun Country and ATA) the leisure charter market in the US, flying in Canada, US, Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia and many other places is now entering what it seems to be the end of a long agony.
Today at 7:00pm 0100GMT Allegro Airlines Pilots and Flight Attendants went on strike as the airline failed to deposit partially due salaries and guarantee the next immediate payroll.
Allegro's financial problems started after 9-11, when was partially operated by a group of American investors who gave some of the most profitable charter routes to other US airlines, sky-rocketing fuel costs and the terrible debate of the took over after it's CEO Mr. Fernando Padilla passed away. The fuel-thirsty 727's were grounded and more than 50 pilots and flight attendants were furloughed. Allegro Airlines currently operates a fleet of MD80's across a domestic system from Cancun/CUN, Ciudad de Mexico/MEX, Guadalajara/GDL, Leon/BJX, Toluca/TLC, Tijuana/TIJ.
There is still hope to revive the airline after this troubled event. Load factors have been excellent and even the airline increased frequencies in some routes.
For the sake of the Aviation in Mexico I hope the airline succesfully overcomes these events. We definitely can not stand another airline going down.
Will tell you more as soon as I can.

And I'll let you know when more than the current 4 727s and 1 DC-9-80 are parked in Tucson.
What is it with all the "is there a possibilty airline X will.." threads? The answer it'll is possible.

Allegro Airlines , they are no longer flying to the USA, because they didnt pay their bills. They owe money to everyone!
They never paid their groundhandlers and the company that handled them in LAS fired them as a customer.
They did not pay the leasing company and I was there when the US Marshals
seized their MD80.
Allegro also never found bags that were lost, they have no tracking system and they did not like to compensate the passenger.
They did not return their customers calls and they liked to send their passengers on a wild goose chase to locate their bags.
Allegro was well known for bilking their customers out of money for excess bags. They took cash , no receipts were given or if thery were it never said Allegro on the receipt. They charged everyone a diffrent rate and the local office always tried to deal with the passenger away from "prying eyes".
This was a horrible airline that deserved to go under.

The strike goes on. Now 18 hours since it started and apparently no signs of any kind that indicates that Allegro will make it. It is almost a fact it will disappear.
This was a horrible airline that deserved to go under.

lasbagman, many people who purchased package trips to Mexico whereby this carrier was used, likened their baggage proceedures to bargaining with
the locals in Tiajuana. Many people have experienced pilferage and excessvie baggage overcharges by this company.

I did not mean you should lose your job, Allegro's Flight crews have always been very professional . I handled LL 561/ 562 in to LAS. I was the counter
Lead Agent. Allegro charter flights were problem free. The sked flight was another matter, You know the " overcharges " that the local Allegro Rep would collect. This Manager also had her daughter collect money and she would stuff the money in her bra. Many passengers and other agents witnessed this.
Allegro to their credit had a sign that displayed charges, however the local Manager did not want it displayed. She and her minion also tried to have the passenger pay them away from other passengers.
The local manager also put Passengers on the plane with out proper documentation and sometimes this caused passengers to be deported.
sherry Mackasini in Irving Texas, also refused to help Passengers that were missing bags, last December Allegro sent 60 bags to OAK in error only 20 made it back to LAS. Allegro US Hdq washed their hands off it and I had the Local News Media looking for The Local Allegro Reps.
I did my best for Allegro in trying to restore bags to passengers. Allegro in LAS
also had the gall to try to charge a passenger $300.00 for a hatbox.
I suggested the passenger throw the box out and wear the hat.
I promptly got chewed out by LL assistant Manager . Needless to say I bid off Allegro the following month.

I have to second what others have said about dealing with Allegro! I sue to work for a tour operator that used them for charter flights and Allegro's local rep I dealt with at the airport, her and I almost came to blows numerous times when she tried to pull stuff. Like putting passengers on our flights and bumping passengers so her friends could fly, charging for bags that were included in the package price, hiding from me at the airport so she did not have to deal with real problems. I could go on and on.

Usually the Manager in LAS didnt like "Gringo Flights" because the bags were Normal size and there were no excess. Funjet had tight control of the flight.
The problem was their Sked Service to Mexico.
I Have morals and integrity, I could never charge or take money that didnt belong to me or purposely sell a ticket and put someone on a flight without proper docs.
On one of their cancellations, they actually put people on a bus to the San
border and made them take the TIJ trolley over the border with their bags.
Allegro also had problems on the arrival with US Customs, they were fined several times for not sending APIS.

I flew Allegro once and I liked the service, however these cowards deserve do go down. They didn't pay ANYONE for the services they provided and even worse they took the services and used the employees knowing that they would not have the money to pay them. These people should be jailed. This is one airline im glad to see gone.....
