For those IAH spotters, a chartered US Airways 767-200ER will fly the Carolina Panthers from CLT to IAH on Sunday. I'm not sure of the flight times, but I bet someone can find them.

The Panthers will dine on 'athletic size' Tex-Mex food on the flight, followed by a good-luck cake for dessert with the Panthers logo on it.

On Thursday, Jan. 29, Panthers family members will fly on 2 US Airways charter flights to IAH, one on a 752 and the other an A321.

The three aircraft will be used again on Feb. 2 to return the team and family to CLT.

This is th 8th year that the Panthers have exclusively used US Airways for their travel needs. US also flew the Steelers this season.

Brett

I have always wondered if the Panthers used US Airways for their travel needs. Now I know!

Hey 321 you must have read that off the "usairways today" that was sent out over the printer around 2pm today (friday). Rumor has it that it (767) will arrive in IAH around 1pm local time , but this is just a rumor that I have herd from some employees, no exact confirmation yet, but if I find a exact time ill be sure to post it.

Thanks for the correction, i knew it was a big plane and i forgot the Bucs use CO for charters. It sucks because in previous years many teams have used 777's and 747's, and now the Panthers use a misely US 762. In fact i think it was 2 maybe 3 years ago when one team chartered a NWA 747 for the team and a DC10 for the fans, and then the other team chartered a UA 747.

It'd be really cool if they took a 333.

In 2002, New England chartered at least three Northwest DC-10s, and either a 757 or a 747 (don't remember which).

For those interested, New England will by flying down on Delta. It'll be out of either BOS or PVD, either on a 767-300 (what they have used for every away game this season), or a 767-400.

Come on now......lets grow up a little. The Boeing 767 is a very nice aircraft.

Not only that but it is more than big enough to transport an NFL team anywhere. What in the world do they need a 747 for? There would probably be over 250 empty seats! What is the point?

The Tennessee Titans have used Delta 752s for all away games for a few years now... Before that, they used Delta 722s - like when they went to the super bowl in Atlanta in 1999 (of course, this is only a 45 minute flight so I doubt it would have mattered if it was a 737)...

OK, why would you CHARTER a flight to IAH when Reliant Stadium and downtown is a heck of lot closer to HOU? HOU is about 6 miles from the stadium and IAH is 6 miles north of the Sam Houston Highway. Is it because of the airline infrastructure is at IAH or does the 76' need more than 7600'?

Mattbna:
Do the Titans charter with AA? Just curious since AA used to have a pretty good sized operation at BNA.

I would've thought that USAirways85 would've supported the Panther's using US Airways considering his member name and all..... Oh well, all I have to say is that I'm glad that the panther's are using US Airways for these flights. And I bet the only reason they didn't get an A330-300 was because US Airways wouldn't really be able to pull one of those off the regular scheduled flights for a charter..... oh well way to go Panther's for choosing US Airways (Wish it was the E-A-G-L-E-S though!!!! )

The football teams a staying around the Greenspoint area which is closer to IAH than HOU for team. Greenspoint to downtown is no more than a 30 minute drive down I-45

I would guess the city of Houston wants the NFL teams to get a good first impression of their city to promote future Super Bowls so of course they would want to go into their flagship airport IAH instead of HOU. HOU is a dump!

Ok for all those who responded to my statement, you really don't realize how many people travel with the team when they go to the superbowl. MANY more than typical games. Do you think teams in the past would have chartered 777's, 747's and 764's this year for the Pats. if they knew they'd only fill half of it. Also from my perspective i would much rather fly on the 330, 747, 772, or 764 if i was going to the game. Never said the 762 was a bad aircraft, and i'm sure the players really could care less what plane they charter.

As for US getting the charter, yes i think it's great, but US really isn't making a whole lot of money off of it.

Exactly. The team doesn't give a crap what kind of airplane they are on. The only difference to them in aircraft is if it has one or two isles down the thing. I guarantee the only thing they care about is what they are served for food along the way, and winning the football game.

At this very moment (6:05 pm EST) team plane (USA9094)is directly over the Mississippi River at FL350...ground speed of 342KTAS. Heck of a headwind.

Flight plan:
CLT./.JAN..AEX.DAS6.IAH/

Cheers,
