Hello again, first I would like to thank everyone for there help on find my sister tickets. We have come down to the TPA-LGW BA flight and LGW-FLR Meridiana flight. One thing I would like to know is if she needs to go through customs at LGW since she is going on to FLR. She is switching airlines and terminals, but on the BAA site it says for int'l transfers there is a shuttle. One more question are there dedicated checkin desks for int'l transfer at Meridiana?

thanks

I am pretty sure your sister will be able to get checked through to FLR in TPA.
And since it is not mandatory to re-check your luggage in Europe after arriving she wont have a lot of hassle.
Your sister will have to go through immigration though.

I can't tell you all too much about connecting in LGW because I haven't been there since 1996.

She will not need to clear immigration at LGW. That will be done at FLR. They will check the bags through and she clears customs at FLR. At LGW she just stays airside. Tell her to follow the Flight Connection signs and they will help her go across from North Terminal to South Terminal on the free connecting bus. Its easy LGW is a friendly place.

In case there is some confusion, the reservation will be booked sepratley. I think that would have an effect on how it works.

thanks again

Yes - you are right. On separate tickets she needs to clear immigration at LGW and collect bag before going over on the inter-Terminal train to check in for the Meridiana flight. Still no big issue. They have dedicated desks for the FLR flight in South Terminal.

It doesn't matter if the reservations are booked seperately, as long as she holds the IG ticket, the BA agent in TPA can input the onward connecting info to allow her bags to be through-checked. Once at LGW, catch the little bus to South Terminal.

I flew to BCN from ATL two years ago via LGW I did not need to clear customs and immigration. I got off the plane and followed signs to connections and immigration and just followed to connections where I cleared security and was back in the terminal where I boarded my flight to BCN. I cleared customs in BCN.

I doubt very much that BA will do this at TPA, since she is not flying LGW-PSA on BA and I don't think there is a separate North Terminal to South Terminal transport for Transit passengers without clearing customs at LGW, and she may also need a transit visa.

Machine readable passports sound very reasonable to me. Last time I was in Newark I had to wait for 2 (two) hours to get through immigration and so missed my connecting flight to Miami. If all passports are machine readable I hope immigration will speed up.

According to BAA there is a special shuttle bus for Int'l Connecting Passengers between LGW North and South Terminals. How does Gatwick look today?
