This was on the cards especially as they upgraded BKK-Vietnam a 744 recently from the 343 and the Vietnamese economy is doing rather well.
Will these be 1900ish departure times again or maybe early afternoon like VN?

Is this AF upgrade only for the summer season? When will it return to being one-stop?

I assume you meant 5x weekly for CDG-HAN?

Good to hear service to Vietnam increasing.

Where do these flights currently stop on their way to SGN/HAN?

Great news! Those flight times are excellent for allowing connections to/from the U.S. East Coast. For New Yorkers at least, it will be the quickest route to Vietnam.

Correction : CDG-HAN will be 5 weekly.

This is not only for the summer season. Until april 2004, CDG-HAN operates 3/weekly (AF172) and CDG-SGN 4/weekly (AF162), all flights via BKK and operated with a B744

Does the AF253/254 operates on a turnaround service at SIN or does it continues to another city? Any further expansion in the SE Asia region?

Odie,

AF254 is operating CDG-SIN on Mon.Wed.Thu.Sat.
AF256 is operating CDG-SIN-CGK on Tue.Fri.Sun.

AF was considering to re-open KUL, but it's all suspended now with the merging process with KLM, as they already operate the route successfully. We will certainly code-share with KL on CDG-AMS-KUL.

If AF 253/254 is operating on CDG-SIN-CDG, why not extend that leg to KUL as well? I heard that AF was considering a code-share with MH on the latter's KUL-CDG route, any more info on that? Thank you.

AF has a 5th freedom right between SIN and CGK but not SIN-KUL... so that route CDG-SIN-KUL would be unprofitable for sure and impact negatively AF's results on the CDG-SIN route... Moreover, we don't have enough a/c to open a CDG-KUL nonstop, but as MH will probably join SkyTeam soon, with KLM, all this could change next year...

When did AF discontinue KUL? What frequency was it and on what equipment?

What was the reason that they discontinued it?

Actually, KUL was a UTA destination, as well as SIN, CGK, DPS, SYD, MEL, NOU. All these cities serve by DC10 and B743 with an en-route stop at BAH or/and CMB.

SIN was the first city served by UTA with their B744-Combi (F-GEXA & F-GEXB) before AF received its own B744.

After AF bought and merged with UTA in the early 90's, and the big AF reorganization in 1993/94, both AF and UT network were mixed and new routes created (NOU was then served via NRT) while the most unprofitable routes were dropped (KUL, MEL, SYD, BAH, MCT, CMB )
