Hi All,
In the last week's Apprentice (Dumb Reality show I know..) Donald Trump highlighted the fact that he saved Millions of Dollars by buying an old 727 released by the airlines for sale, rather than purchasing an expensive corporate jet. What's the economics of this really?

An old 727 goes for what? $3-4 Million or less? Trump said a new Executive Jet costs $30-50 Million.. But it is worth it considering the higher fuel cost, 3 crew members vs 2, and just the cost of maintenance on such an old aircraft..Just how many 727's are converted into Executive jets?

Your thoughts would be appreciated,

I've seen quite a few, one exactly like his actually (different paint lol). Many people like it for the lower sticker price...I'm sure with their schedules, it's not too too bad on fuel..not like theyre carrying lotsa pax. Plus, oftentimes they change the engines out too, to the MD-80 style JT8D...better efficiency and less noise.

Keep em flyin!

Depreciation would be significantly lower on a used 727 then a new jet.

I'd take the 727 any day.

I have to admit, if a new BBJ and a "727-200BBJ" with similar capabilities were side by side, I'd have to take the 727.  Smokin cool
