The Brazilian press is informing that VARIG is already negotiating the acquisition of three MD-11 and two 777-200 (those first delivery to BA. GE Powered).

I suppose Swiss, but those birds are PW powered.
Varig has a fleet for almost 15 MD11s and all of them are GE powered.
It seems to be a little strange to me.

I thought K6 took delivery but never operated any revenue flights with their 777s ? I think they were supposed to fly Hadj flights first but don't think they ever did. Any more info ?

RG777, would you know if they have any plans on increasing MIA-GRU with United's demise in the market? Maybe to 10x weekly? Or maybe bringing back the GIG flights?
Though with one less airline and one less 763, the profits will increase, so it would not surprise me to see them sit still for a while (though there is a rumour AA may apply for three extra slots to make MIA-GRU 3x daily from the current 18w).

I know this is off topic slightly, but does anyone know what Varig's M11 service in Y class is like? I am flying with them LHR-GRU-GIG in March. I would have thought that routing would be right up at the top end of that bird's range too.

Regarding the subject about the increase of MIA-GRU-MIA market.
I believe VARIG is going to keep just one daily flight to Miami, but serving that destination with the B777.
As far as Know, AA has two daily flights to MIA. The first one in leaving GRU in the morning and the second one departures in the evening. Both flights are operated by B777s.
RG never stopped flying from GIG to MIA. Once they created a connection in GRU, but the folks from Rio de Janeiro always had this flight available.
MD11 economy class.
I have flown many times on RG MD11s. The economy class is always something to forget about, especially on intercontinental flights. In Varig's case the flight crew are really great, They are kind and very educated people. The bird itself is nothing but a regular MD11, but is kept in very good condition. No PTVs, but a very nice meal service.
I hope you enjoy your journey.

As I posted in another thread, those two 777s are still at Goodyear. I saw them last Sunday. I had been wondering how long they would be there since they arrived around September of last year. They are all white, with no markings. You can actually trace the history of the last 6 months of those 777s through a photo search in this site.
From what I can gather, they were prepped for K6 at Cardiff. After service with K6, they were painted all white at FRA and then sent to Marana. From Marana, they took a short hop to GYR, where they have been ever since.
I don't know when Varig is supposed to take delivery because those birds haven't moved really at all in the last 5 months. If anything, they have been repositioned to make room for a former KLM 747-200, that is currently being stripped of parts. I would take photos, but this site won't allow digital. Too big of a file it seems.
However, I did notice the new arrival of 2 Varig 767s since I was there last. There also must be 2 or 3 Varig MD-11s too.

123, GYR = Goodyear, Arizona... just move your mouse directly over the GYR code and you will see a question-mark appear next to it - and a moment later, a box with the explanation will also appear (doesn't work with all codes, but quite a few of them are in the database).

Thank you Speedbirdheavy, but the movement of one of those planes was supposedly yesterday so it would still have been there last Saturday. It flew under a Boeing call sign.

Does anyone know when the other one is leaving GYR?

AA has three. A daylight flight with a 763 and two redeyes, one with a 772 and one with a 763. The daylight operates only Friday through Monday.
