Just wondering ,with the increased 737 activity at D/FW if American might start operating them on the sjc route.Given that this route use to have several 757's on it and the fact that it's a very short runway and has some weight restriction issues too, plus it being a big AA 737 route.I flew on the 737 on this route back in the summer, both going and coming back and found that aircraft more enjoyable than a super-80 on that route.Wondering if any AA people or pilots know if that's in the work's possible.Thanks.

Dont look for it any time soon. The 737's are mainly going on routes through ORD and to the east coast and some trans cons. They have done SJCDFW before with 738's but they were very short lived.

SJC's runways are both over 10,000 feet so the length isn't really an issue, plus with a daily 777 to NRT, I don't know if weight is an issue either.
The red zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only, there is no stopping in the white zone...(Ai

On the contrary, I think the amount of 737-800's flying through DFW is increasing. And they will be flying on some of the more traditional MD-80 routes. Before they were flying the Latin American routes through DFW and to MIA. But I have seen 738's flying between DFW and MCI, RNO, LAX, LGB. I will be flying AA's 738's to RNO in the near future.
SJC could get more 738 traffic. Doesn't AA still fly to SNA with 738's still?

I think SNA may see one or two 738's from SJC, other than that it is RJ's now. I remember (and even flown a couple of times) a 757 from SJC to SNA.

Just as everyone else has said, definitely not a weight issue. 30R is somewhere near 11,000ft, so definitely not a runway length either. People always mention the 777 in restriction issues, but I think the 767 may actually require more runway when totally full. Those familiar with SJC will recall the 763 flights to Paris CDG in summer 2001. Also, summer 2002 AA sent 762s to JFK. Another time, I saw a 763 from SFO flying to HNL as a sub for the 757--that was back about 2000. Also, almost forgot that the Cargo airlines (FedEx, UPS, and used to be Emory [Kitty Hawk now?]) fly in MD-11s, DC-10s, and DC-8 daily.
Back on topic, I think its just the fact that AA has not so old MD-80s that are still great planes. I'm glad that they save the 738s and their IFE for longer flights. Its much better to have a 738 SJC-ORD or MCO-LAX (I know from experience) than just on the 3 hours from SJC-DFW. They both hold right about the same number of passengers (MD-80 just a tad less by my calculations) and both have MRTC. I actually prefer the MD-80s on this route because I prefer sitting on the 2 side of the 2-3 config rather than in a 3-3.
Back off topic, AA does still fly two daily roundtrips on 738s to/from SNA. I believe these are the planes coming from/going to ORD. Also, the MD-80s from DFW (used to continue to SAN, LAX, and SNA) now go only to LAS. They're also running a 757 late at night to LAS which I guess comes either from the JFK or DFW runs.

I would like to add that Rich International used to fly charters between SJC and HNL before 30L was lengthened. Also EA used to fly a 757 between SJC and ATL. So weight wasn't a real problem back then.
Now, when AA introduced SJC-AA), Japan">NRT, which happened before the runway extension, they started with a DC-10-30, then to an MD-11. I had heard they had to make fuel stops at OAK periodically.
