Sorry, I was just looking at my itinerary and noticed that we also arrive at SFO but fly out 6 hours later at SJC. This may be a long one so any info on public transit would also help.

Thank you

Best regards,

Between ORD and MDW, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates the Blue line train from ORD to downtown, where you can connect to the Red or Orange, I forget right now, straight to MDW. The trip to downtown is approx 45 min, and 35 to MDW. Fare is $1.50 ORD-downtown, I guess xfer is free.
At ORD, the trains depart from under the Hilton Hotel. There are numerous signs that can direct you.

At SFO, I am almost sure you can go to a CalTrain station in Millbrae via BART then to San Jose, with a free xfer to SJC. It has been awhile since I was there. This may take some time, though. But if you got the time, I've got the beer, I mean it would be worth the savings.  Big grin

Do not know about LAX-LGB or NYC.

BART every 20 minutes from SFO to the Millbrae railroad station ($1.65?)

Caltrain from Millbrae to Santa Clara ($4.25); no weekend service at the moment. http://www.caltrain.org

Free bus from Santa Clara to SJC

LAX to LGB

Super Shuttle is $36 for two passengers in same van. www.supershuttle.com or 1-800-blue van.

I use them alot in many different cities. Usually great service, inexpensive and prompt.

Ok, not being from the southern California area and totally oblivious to distances in Los Angeles, Would the shuttle bus at 36.00 be cheaper that taking a taxi? Again, I have no clue how far that is!  Big grin

I am almost certain that the shuttle bus would be much cheeper than a taxi. But who knows.

JFK to LGA has frequent bus service ($12). Also- a cab would only cost about $20-25 between the two airports. Time of travel is 20 minutes to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Taxi would be more than twice as expensive in non-existant light traffic on the 405. Although thumbing it would save you some $$$$.

Wow! Just out of curiosity, where all are you traveling that forces you to make so many airport-to-airport connections? I've never heard of so many! What airlines will you be flying? Will they be able to check your luggage all the way through?

Yes, and the reason for airport transfers is SOUTHWEST AIRLINES, SPIRIT AIRLINES, and AMERICA WEST and we will have bags with us, that is the only thing that I am worried about, we have a minimum of 5 hours between flights, but should our baggage not make it on that flight we are screwed but will cross that bridge when we come to it! And as for Airline transfers, part of the vacation is trying out different airlines (being a aviation enthusiast and all) and visiting different airports! Here is a quick Example of our trips and tickets..........

1.) Vancouver (YVR)
Depart 7:55 am to Portland (PDX)
Arrive 9:10 am
Duration: 1hr 15mn
Flight: 2151
(Horizon Air)
-----------------------
Portland (PDX)
Depart 10:00 am to San Jose (SJC)
Arrive 11:45 am
Duration: 1hr 45 mn
Flight: 312
(Alaska Airlines)

2.) San Francisco (SFO)
Depart 3:58 pm to Las Vegas (LAS)
Arrive 5:21 pm
Duration: 1hr 23 mn
Flight: 1509
(United Airlines)
------------------------
Las Vegas (LAS)
Depart 6:10 pm to Los Angeles (LAX)
Arrive 7:15 pm
Duration: 1hr 5 mn
Flight: 113
(America West Airlines)

3.) Long Beach (LGB)
Depart 6:55 am to phoenix (PHX)
Arrive 8:15 am
Duration: 1hr 19mn
Flight: 6162
(America West Airlines)
-------------------------
phoenix (PHX)
Depart 9:10 am to New York (JFK)
Arrive 4:47 pm
Duration: 4hr 24 mn
Flight: 12
(America West Airlines)

4.) New York (LGA)
Depart 8:55 pm to Fort Lauderdale (FLL)
Arrive 11:50 pm
Flight: 703
(Spirit Airlines)

And so on and so forth, It would take me forever to type out the entire itinerary but you get the Idea............ I will be posting a full trip report after we get back in Late July.

Best regards,
a340pilot

The CTA Subway fare between ORD-MDW is now $1.75. It was raised a couple of weeks ago. Total transit time between the two airport on the CTA is around 90 minutes. You have to change from the blue to the orange line in the downtown Chicago. The transfer is free.

There is a van service that runs between the two airport. I think that the service around $20-$25 per person.

A taxi between the two airports will run about $45.

I guess your trip is for one week -- you will write the trip report in July because that must be how long it will take you to recuperate.

Fortunately, She is also a aviation enthusiast, and no its not all just travel, she gets to go to Disneyworld, Nassau, Key West, New Orleans tours, plus swimming with the dolphins at Theatre of the sea, and doing nothing for 3 days in Miami on the beaches, seeing all there is to see in Washington DC!  Big grin So she's gets all that and I get to fly different airlines, airports, and we get to do some minor plane spotting at different airports.

Best Regards,
a340pilot

I actually have no idea how much energy this is going to take out of Us, But it will be interesting to see! This is our first trip together, and neither of us have been on Vacation in years! And we have done a lot of scrimping and saving for this trip so we hope it will all go ok. If not I will be posting our trip report closer to Christmas Time.  Big grin

Best regards,
a340pilot

PS- We have only been together for just over a year, and no honeymoon! This will be it

Edit: To get back on topic (as it seems this is headed towards a trip report or non-av) I am glad to hear that there is a cheaper way to shuttle between two airports, whether it be cab, public transportation, or shuttle!
