HAGÅTÑA - Cape Air's plan to provide commuter service for Guam, Saipan
and Rota appears to be firming up.
The Cape Cod Times is reporting that Cape Air will begin operations in
the Pacific by July at the latest and would be staffed by 30 to 40 Cape Air
employees - pilots, maintenance crew and the first flight attendants in the
airline's history.
Cape Air is said to be already in the process of training pilots to
fly
the new aircraft and is seeking the necessary certification from the Federal
Aviation Administration.
According to the report, Cape Air would base three 46-passenger
turbo-propeller-powered ATR-42 aircraft in Guam.
The planes have reportedly been leased from Continental Airlines; one
is
currently being repainted and retrofitted at Cape Air's hangar at Barnstable
Municipal Airport.
"Even though (Guam) is far away, it's very similar to what we're doing
in the Caribbean, Florida and the Cape," The Cape Cod Times quoted Cape Air
president Dan Wolf as saying.
"Cape Air would serve the islands daily as part of a partnership
arrangement with Continental. They would like to see some higher frequency
and
service in Guam," Wolf said of Continental.
Continental is already a Cape Air "code share" partner, meaning
customers connect from Continental flights directly to Cape Air planes with
a
single reservation.
Wally Dias, Continental Airlines staff vice president for sales and
marketing, earlier confirmed that Continental was working with Cape Air for
probable additional, inter-island routes but added that details had not been
finalized.
Dias and other Continental officials were unavailable for comment as
of
press time yesterday.

Does it sound like to you that CO is wanting to take 9K under thier wings and make them a CO EXPRESS Carrier. I like 9K so it sounds good to me

For the Ferry not Sure Ferry tanks I guess SFO-HNL is the Long segment then Island Hop to Guam..9K is already a CO codeshare operator at SJU/STT/PSE/STX/EIS..so they say it is the same ..but they have never operated the ATR before..

Is Pacific Island still in operation over there? Or is 9K replacing service they had?

sprxfly:
9K will be supplementing the service in GUM. They will be adding frequency in the area as CO only opps 1 or 2 flights to most destinations.

Continental Connection carrier. They already operate as a Continental Connection carrier on four intra-Florida routes: TPA-DAB/RSW/SRQ and MIA-APF.

Yes PIA 9J still operates Northwest Airlink with Shorts 360's, Same routes..The General public here is scared of Turboprops as in Hawaii, they just want to fly on 737's 727's or something..Hawaii would be great for ATR service also but the Public rejected it..I'm not sure if the Japanese like them either..

Good for 9K, great airline, seems their relationship with CO is going rather well. They just opened DAB-TPA and and bunch of other intra-Florida routes too.

What is the range on an ATR for ferry purposes - i.e. full fuel load, no pax, etc.?

There was a news story on the PVD NBC affiliate this morning, but missed all besides the headline...I'll check the local news sources for a possible link and/or pic.
