Delta Air Lines' Vice President of Public Relations was in Beirut recently and met MEA chairman Mohammad El-Hout. They had a 4-hour conference in MEA's headquarters. Several other Delta officials came along as well. Not sure what they were talking about, but in October, El-Hout said that a couple airlines will be discussing code-shares and other agreements with MEA.
Anyone think Delta wants a code-share with MEA? Perhaps because of MEA's Skyteam entrance in November.....

I know what DL wants...it wants to codeshare on MEAs CDG-BEY-CDG flights and in return get MEA to code share on its mutiple daily CDG-JFK-CDG + CDG-ATL-CDG + CDG-CIN-CDG flights.
From ATL, MEA might too codeshare on DLs ATL-DTW flights and ATL-LAX and ATL-DFW/IAH flights!!!
I bet that is what DL is interested in doing as they know that it will be a long time until MEA is allowed direct access by the US Govt for flights from BEY to NYC and DTW.

BA,
You will always be on top of the list when it comes to interesting news regarding MEA.
By the way, have you looked at the BA (KJ) fligth schedule this summer to BEY. 10 weekly flights (5 321's and 5 320's).
I figured they would upgrade the service to two dailies for the sumer....

Very interseting news BA,though you're abroad you seem to be much into knowing more about ME), Brazil">MEA's activities!(thanks for that insider!)
Hope those ME-DL discussions will be made public soon.
A question for MEA330 if it happens that you're reading this:
I've been spotting an MEA330 doing touch & go's for over two hours now,any words on that?
Is it some training session?

MEA310,
MEA330 posts very few times, but I will try to answer the questions for you. Anytime you see an airliner doing touch and go's at an airport in its country more than twice then you know its probably training and not something wrong with the plane.
Touch and go's are not necessarily landing practice also, they could be certifying the MEA pilots for CATIII ILS operations (landing in zero-zero conditions). Sometimes touch and go's are also done after maintenence has been performed on a plane, among other reasons. Hope that helps...

MEA's intention to join SkyTeam was again clearly expressed by Mohamad A. El-Hout (MEA's Chairman) in "CEDAR WINGS" (MEA's Inflight Magazine - Dec/Jan edition p.107 ).
P.Alexandre (AF N°2 Manager) spent a week in Beiru last November. As Delta is the other founder member of SkyTeam, there is nothing strange that their manager is in BEY for final talks with MEA.
Same things are currently in progress with Aeroflot, who officially claimed for membership last January 29th.

DL also has been pursuing Emirates very heavily lately........esp since JFK-DXB will be up and running later. Will this effect their relations with El Al in any way.......I know El Al burnt a few bridges over the holiday season with their overbookings from EWR!!!

Thought I'd ask MEA330 since he's an insider.I never thought there was a problem with the plane,it was clearly training purposes since they performed several touch&go's.

FLYSSC,
I have just found out today that the Vice President of Public Relations was in Beirut in November. Probably the same time the Air France officials were there.
I heard that a code-share is on the way.

Runway 18/36 is still operating, but not very much anymore. This summer, I saw MEA A330 touch and goes on runway 18.

What are the possible scenarios:
DL codesharing on MEA's flights from CDG, FRA, MXP and FCO? And possibly MEA's flights to DXB, AUH? It's been discussed here that DL's flights to IST are coordinated already with MEA's flights there.
But, I am still wondering what MEA can offer DL (or Skyteam in general) since the MEA operation out of BEY is a bit sporadic and does not operate as a hub and spoke. And most airports in the middle east do get good service by AZ, AF and KLM.
As it is, BEY is well served by SkyTeam carriers: OK, AZ, AF and KL and Aeroflot which will be joining soon.
Is there a possibility that some of the SKyTeam carriers might decide to pull out of BEY??? For instance, AZ.... or maybe MEA could pull out of MXP,FCO and transfer the aircraft to boost service to points withinn the middle east...

Yegbey01,
MEA does operate a hub-and-spoke system, and it is an efficient one. Flights are few, but it's still a hub-and-spoke system. They are far from being sporadic. MEA was sporadic before 1998 during the 707 days when they operated a bunch of 1x weekly routes.
It is true that most airports in the Middle East are served well by AZ, AF, and KLM, but the idea is to provide passengers even more options.
I think MEA will be most valuable to Delta. It will greatly expand Delta's realm into the Middle East.
I don't think Skyteam carriers will pull out of BEY. The flights are profitable.
Air France started with A310s and now is flying daily 777s. Czech Airlines is now flying 4x weekly 737-400. Alitalia is now flying 8x weekly A320. They all do very well.
I don't think MEA will pull out of MXP and FCO. The idea of an alliance/partnership is for airlines to cooperate with each other. That's why you see both Air France and MEA jointly operating CDG-BEY and code-sharing with each other.
MEA recently increased FCO/MXP frequency from 3x weekly to 4x weekly, so they must be happy with it.
Alitalia is increasing Beirut from daily to 8x weekly A320 soon.
Aeroflot is increasing BEY from 2x weekly (non-stop inbound, one-stop outbound via DAM) to 3x weekly non-stop (non-stop on both inbound and outbound) TU-154.
Perhaps because of Aeroflot's planned entrance into Skyteam?
