I know Portland presently has flights both to Honolulu and Maui on Hawaiian Air...I was wondering could Portland support more service to the Hawaiian islands?

I think further service from PDX-Hawaii is definitely in store. NW is to commence SEA-HNL/OGG service later this year with the 753. If my guess is correct, depending on how the SEA flights do, PDX will be the next on the list for service to HNL/OGG. With AS/Horizon flgiths feeding traffic, this could be a probability

The SEA-OGG service is new, but Northwest has been flying SEA-HNL for years with DC-10s.

It wouldn't surprise me to see NW go from PDX to HNL and/or OGG. They seem to have an interest in building up PDX as an Asian/Pacific Rim mini-hub (their PDX-NRT flight comes to mind) and flights to Hawaii on 753s might not be that far off.

Definately should have room for another airline or two. AQ would do great serving PDX-HNL and PDX-OGG.

Haven't heard anything for awhile, but this is what I did hear last year sometime.

The PDX/SEA-Hawaii markets are the most under-served non-stop markets as far as the Hawaiian visitors office is concerned.

For years they say they have been trying to get more added capacity in these markets and for whatever reason it hasn't happened.

With ATA coming into SEA-HNL that will help, but NW dropping DC10's for 753's will not

SEA-HNL
HA 1X Daily 763
NW 1X Daily DC10 (soon to be 753)
TZ 1X Daily 752 (as of Feb 04)

SEA-OGG
HA 4X weekly 763 (Daily again as of Mar 04)
NW 1X Daily DC10 (soon to be 753)

PDX-HNL
HA 1X Daily 763

PDX-OGG
HA 3X Weekly 763 (Daily again as of Mar 04)

And still you cant get seats out of SEA or PDX

Hawaiian will help. They go double-daily on SEA-HNL 01Mar04.

Only time will tell if HNL - PDX - HNL flights will be profitable. If HA's flights are full most of the time, then others may jump in the fracas. But ... if they saturate the market, because everyone wants a piece of the pie, then there will be some losers.

HA is doing the smart thing to add another SEA flight from HNL.

People can always connect via QX from/to PDX. Their service is excellent.

Doesn't NW have 2 flights to/from SEA out of HNL?

As far as SEA goes, I realize that the DC-10 has been operating these routes for some time now and was referring to the 753 service being new.

Yes, the SEA/PDX-HA markets are under-sreved. Try getting a seat! It would be nice to see some NW 747s here in PDX, though I highly doubt it

I doubt another HA flight from PDX. Right now, 2 destinations seems just about right. Though the maui may go year round (last I heard it is just seasonal).

It really hard to predict what Hawaiian air is going to do..As I recall initially the Maui service was only suppose to be seasonal ending in the spring of 2003 resuming in the fall, however they continued it year round. Now they are planning to go daily this summer....Believe me i'm not complaining..But since it appears that the market is underserved, it sure would be great to see some of the other majors giving us more options to Hawaii...

With many FA's based here in SEA I get to talk with alot of them........bringing the 747 back to the SEA-HNL route is a MAJOR wish among them. The NW fleet is too small and the 747's is asia are packed. Before the 753 idea came along it was a RUMOR that a 747 would replace the current once daily SEA-HNL and that DC10 would be the 2nd daily NRT-HNL. Who knows, looks like we a stuck with the 753's. Oh well, looks like I'll be flying HA on a WIDE-BODY!
