British Mediterranean Airways, BA's sole longhaul franchise carrier (Operating A320 and A321 aircraft) is to add two new destinations for Summer 2004.
From 9th April a three times weekly service to Khartoum (KRT) will operate with an A320 via Amman (AMM). Departures from LHR will be on Mon, Thu and Sat, with return departures from KRT on Tue, Fri and Sun.
From 10th May the Russian city of Yekaterinburg (SS), Russia">SVX) is added with a three times weekly A320 service departing LHR on Mon, Wed and Sat. This service goes on to Almaty (ALY) replacing the previous routing via Baku (BAK). Return service is on Tue, Thu and Sun.
Other timetable details are: -
AMM will see daily service (From five per week), with a three times weekly service via Beirut (BEY) on Tue, Fri and Sun from LHR (The return will be on Mon, Wed and Sat). The three direct services going on to KRT make six per week, with the seventh service being a once weekly via Damascus (DAM) departing LHR on Wed (Return departing AMM on Thu).
DAM also goes daily (From six per week). The Wed direct service (Going on to AMM) is one flight (Return on Thu). Three services per week operate via Aleppo (ALP) on Tue, Fri and Sun (Ex LHR), with return on Mon, Wed and Sat. The final three flights operate via BEY on Mon, Thu and Sat ex LHR (Returning on Tue, Fri and Sun).
BEY has a nine times weekly summer service, daily with additional flights on Fri and Sun.
Four times weekly to Bourg el Arab [Alexandria] (HBE) and on to Addis Ababa (ADD) on Tue, Thu, Fri and Sun is maintained (Return on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat).
Baku maintains daily service (All A321), though four flights terminate there, going on to Bishkek (FRU) on Mon, Thu and Sat. Return from FRU is Tue, Fri and Sun, with daily from BAK.
Three times weekly service to Yerevan (EVN) going on to Tashkent (TAS) is maintained. Departures from LHR are on Wed, Fri and Sun, with return departures from TAS on Mon, Thu and Sat.
Finally, Tehran (THR) moves to a five times weekly service from four. Departures daily except Mon and Wed from LHR, Tue and Thu from THR. One step closer to BMed's aim of a daily service.
No sign of a return to Tbilisi - might have to wait until the winter schedule for this to happen. My guess would be that it would combine with the EVN service, with TAS being served via BAK (As four flights currently go no further this summer).
If you got this far, well done! All in all a fantastic flying programme for such a small airline. To schedule those A320s and A321s to manage all this is great and BMed has certainly carved itself a niche in serving markets BA just couldn't itself.

I wonder how much BA is wanting KJ to grow. Obviously there's still so much potential for KJ. Right now, they are a lot more than "Mediterranean" but at some point, BA will have to renegotiate their agreement with KJ.
By the way, what does KJ do with excess capacity durig the winter... where do they fly their planes. Do they charter for tour operators?

I've been thinking about your first point myself Yegbey. It's interesting looking at the routes that BA keeps for itself. I mean Tripoli is a BA European service, when to a certain degree it would seem to fit with BMed more. Likewise Algiers has been restarted by BA when GB Airways operates all the other routes to North West Africa. I guess its a case of where BA feels it can make good money on a route. As long as KJ keeps away from the Gulf then are there any destinations that KJ currently serves that BA might want itself? After all, Tehran, Almaty and Baku were all BA operated until KJ took them over, as were Beirut, Damascus and Amman until the franchise agreement started.
KJ certainly allows BA to serve some longhaul destinations that it couldn't flying itself. As long as it remains a relationship that benefits both sides, and on BA's part generates good income from the franchise, then can't see any real need for major changes. Anyway, if there were, the refranchising negotiations would solve this as I think BMed's current one expires in a couple of years.

BMed has quite a few one-stop routes. I was wondering if they have traffic rights for the legs such as AMM-KRT, SS), Russia">SVX-BAK, HBE-ADD, BAK-FRU and EVN-TAS ? Otherwise they will fly around quite a few empty seats on relatively long flights.

KJ is not owned by BA at all - they operated as a franchise (I think they even pay BA for the privilege) - they do not operate any flights under their own KJ code, all are operated with BA code.
The A320s are operated in a different config to BA's European narrowbody Airbus fleet - they have 12 Club World seats in 2 x 2 config (not sleeper seats tho', the old Cradle seats I think), and I think they have a slightly bigger seat pitch in World Traveller too.
