This is from the enthusiast point of view.
What airports fit the category of being BIG, BUSY, but BORING in your opinion?
For me its SAN. I dont even like messing around with SAN. Its been like that since I got out here in 1993. I can usually sit at any other airport all day. At SAN, I am bored in 2-3 hours. I would much rather sit at my hometown airport KTVC, (IN THE SUMMER!) and watch the bizjets,DC9's, and RJ's for a full day, or KGRR, or pretty much every other decent size airport in the world.

I have never been to LGA, but, have been to JFK and EWR. I got frustrated at JFK. To me, it wasn't worth paying the tolls, only to sit in a mall parking lot two miles away from the approach to one of the runways to see the exotics. EWR on the other hand, is awesome. I definitely could spend a whole day there.

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question directly, but it made me think how UN boring Fort Lauderdale Executive was a few weeks ago. In the space of a little over an hour I saw, among the regular GA and corporate aircraft, a Starship land (yes I'm sure), a Learjet 23, a Lockheed Jetstar, Pitts S-2, and on and on. The diversity and some fairly rarer types made it quite the lunch. That, and they have what's called the 'Lounge', which is just basically a raised portion of the lawn on the approach end with picnic benches and 2 speakers transmitting the Tower.

JFK is not enthusiast-friendly at all. Unless you know the airport very well, it isn't worth visiting just to see the airplanes. Its a maze of streets, terminals, hangars, and what not with very limited good views of the airside action.
As for the most boring airport... I'll vote for Phoenix.

Sorry, big, busy and boring does NOT describe SAN in the least bit. I would think maybe SLC, DEN, DFW or ATL. If SAN is boring and views and locations do not count, then there are several "big" airports with less interesting variety and certainly a much more boring approach. Even if SAN was all WN, it would more interesting than some other airports I've been to. I guess if there are no 747s to Europe or Asia, it is boring.

747's have nothing to do with it... I dont know how to explain it. I usually have the urge to go to any airport, especially a busy one when I can. I just do not get that feeling in the least bit at SAN.

DEN.....LOL you guys obviously havent spent much time at DFW......BIG, BUSY, and BORING is exaclty the words i would use to describe DFW....nothing but Delta Rj's.....and AA MD-80's...I do have to admite though, i must have left the other day at a busy time for heavys cause i did see alot of AA 767's roaming around.
I took AA Flight 66 two days go...its the 777 flight from DFW-ORD....great trip and they showed all the movies they had availiable at the time as well....nice treat.

these airports sound great if you're a fleet collector like me......I'm yet to get to the states, but when I do.... To be honest as far as diversity goes any of the big hub airports in the states would appear to be 'boring'.

The most boring airport:
Ambrosich Field, Elizabeth, CO. Privately owned, only 1 a/c operates from this two runway (mowed patches of grass in a farm field) airfield. I have never even seen it. Ever. Ever. Ever. I wouldn't recommend spotting there. You won't get much.

I will have to add IAD as boring. Was there last week, and saw UAX CRJ (about 20) UAX J41 (10), NW DC-9 x2,1 757, 2 A320,couple 737s ( all UA). The only exciting part was as I was leaving seeing Saudia 747. Wasn't as busy as I would have expected.
Going to SFO tomorrow, I am sure that will be a treat! More UA!!!!!!

MWP DTW are pretty boring. all NW... FLL is nothing special either. ORD is alright if you see terminal 5, or terminal 2... but if youre running through connecting on UA or AA.... youre gonna see either gray or silver the whole time youre there. even though UA's B/C concourses are very very nice i think.
life wasn't worth the balance, or the crumpled paper it was written on
