Does anyone know what airlines are likely to use LHR T5?
And estimated opening date?

Althought I can't answer, I wanted to add a question. Does anyone know what it will look like? I had no idea they were so far along in construction, yet I have never seen an artist rendition of what it is to look like.

All for BA for its services and I guess Qantas, Iberia (BA has shares in) and perhaps some OneWorld. Oh and Concorde will probably be parked up inside.

Completion is Spring zero eight but it will be late as these things usually are. It is a gigantic project including submerging roads. It is also being built with T6 and new runway in mind...........

The last illustration I saw looked a bit like the BA World cargo building! Big grin

I thought T5 was going to be BA! Most likely other OneWorld partners I would think. Tho this is only my opinion.

Richard Rogers Partnership is principal architect, which means steel and glass and, er, more steel and more glass.

I've also seen an artists impression, and it included a new control tower,
Any info?
I reckon it could do with more modern structure.

I remember reading somewhere that T5 will be built to accomodate/handle the A380 as well. As others have mentioned already I also remember T5 will be used primarily by OneWorld member airlines.

BA and it's Oneworld partners will occupy terminal 5. I can see BA moving it's entire operations to T5 from T1,3 and 4 from now onwards. We could also see Star Alliance move to T1, UA already wants to move all it's flights to T1 from T3.

toBEYwithMEA,
look at the thumbnail provided, and you'll get an idea of the size of T5. It looks as big as the CTA (ie. T1, T2 & T3).

Once T5 is finished, aren't they then going to look at refubishing T1?

From the looks of it, T5 is going to look like both ATL and IAD. Looks like it will be able to accommodate a lot of aircraft at once!

Late last year BAA announced it was investing an extra £1 Billion to complete T5 in 2008 (Rather than stages through to 2012) and that as a result BA would move its entire operation there from T1, T3 (MIA only) and T4 in one go, rather than in stages from 2008 to 2012. So in one hit, all going well, those other four terminals will seem a lot less crowded come opening.

Let's Go British Caledonian!
