Anybody hear Paul Harvey on the radio today?

He pretty much laid out how stupid Richard Daley was for closing Meigs Field. It was interesting to listen to.

Just wondering if anyone else heard.

I have hated the Mayor ever since then. No doubt he had been planning an underhanded land deal, and used security as an excuse. What a greedy coward!

Yes, I heard the broadcast.

You can listen to him broadcast over the internet, as well as using his site to find an on-air station near you:

I heard it as well. I knew I liked Paul Harvey for some reason. From the sounds of it Paul Harvey is a pilot. He likes Daley but apposes this move. Daley wants to spend $30 million for the park, money they don't have. The FAA wants to spend $100+ million on airport improvements for Meigs, Daley declined. What an idiot!

King Richard II, I mean Richie Daley felt that a terrorist taking off in a Cessna 172 full of explosives was a threat to the Loop.

I'm more concerned that some of the general-aviation aircraft that used to go into CGX may cause a mid-air collision while trying to figure out the patterns into ORD, MDW, or Palwaukee.

Really glad Mr. Harvey is getting this story out. I've never figured out how entities like the FAA, Interstate Commerce Commission, and even th IRS are letting him get away from this. I know this is reaching but if the FAA wants to give 100 million (not my quote) to improve Meigs how are they going to do it if he has hijacked the airport? Doesn't closing a field without due process interfere with interstate commerce? Isn't he robbing the city, state and nation of a tax source but making it a park? Why has no-one asked the Federal goverment for input on this case? I know it's a city owned airport and doesn't have to play by the rules but if all close in airports used this Mayors public logic then look at all the other fields that would be closed. Where would Midway be?

Simple, he's pretty much invincible. He just got away scott free with a huge truck scandal while Superfly's favorite republican is going to jail for ten years for only a similar scandal. Plus, dead people and people who don't pay the bulk of the taxes are the ones who vote him in, not the ones upon which the economic burden rests.

[addition to origional post:]
Also, http://www.friendsofmeigs.org has been updated. Looks like a revamped Meigs, a park as Daley wants, and NO COST to the taxpayers on top of all that, who wouldn't take that? Then again, looks as if Daley still wants to jack up property taxes to support this thing he has proposed.

Daly really screwed up on the Meigs Field sabatoge.
From what I hear, G.A. traffic is picking up at GYY.

I'd read the "Friends" site and thought the proposal was great if feasible but if Daley excepts it he would be saying that his premise for closing Meigs was wrong. And whats the chance of that?

I've read some things that hint that some other Chi-town politicos have received so much flack on this they are distancing themselves if not voicing opposition. It's gotta be scary to live in a dictatorship. Now if we could just get Paul Harvey go say that he's heard Daley is building Weapons of Mass Distruction on the Meigs site .............

Superfly, don't know if it's bad that I forgot the man's name but remembered that tidbit! Anyways, LOT hasn't picked up traffic which is suprising. I'm supposed to be flying to GYY on a leg of my long cross country to round up my ppl training. I'll let you know how the airport's doing Big grin.

Awesome!  Big thumbs up
You will be the first pilot I know that flew in to my hometown airport.

Word of caution; don't ware blue or red if you leave the airport. Those are known gang colors on the west side of Gary.  Big grin

Why did Mayor Daley bulldoze Meigs field?

Because he can.

I'm not all that surprised. I think we're too far from the city to be a good alternative to Meigs. I'm just fine with the traffic staying the same, the pattern's to busy on the odd + 30 hours the way it is.  Big thumbs up
