Yea, i spotted the Iberia A346 in July last year in LHR during my 7-day spotting-trip to London. The Airbus was totally new to IB, just 2 or 3 weeks old.

Though Iberia's first 346 has made a visit to LHR before, the one you refer to was also on a 'first visit' as it was EC-IQR,the second machine to be delivered.

Sometimes IB use, sometimes, the "wides" for some europeans destinations. In the case of LHR I know A343 has been there. In the past,DC-10 was a visitor to LHR,too.

The first visit was of EC-INO around the 7th of July.
IB 343s are rather common at LHR,as you say Anxebla, usually on IB3166 in the evening.
I'm hoping for some TAP 340s again this summer for the EuroChamps.

From IB has code share agreements with BA,just sometimes wides aircrafts visit LHR.Now IB have less flights to Lhr than 3/4 years ago.By the way...now I
can't see the IB-3166 in the timetable (Iberia.es)

Being a regular on the LHR-MAD route, I can confirm that the A300/340 etc used to be rostered on the route along with MD87s, along with the normal airbuses and B752. It used to make is so much more interesting to decide which flight to take! I even had one of the 4 319s in December 2000 that are based out in Miami (EC-HKO).
Nowadays, on the MAD route, it is 100% A320/1/B752 right now. Therefore, I can't think why they'd put a 346 on the flight unless is were part of the proving they are trying to do with the plane (as on the long haul routes), or some kind of a/c change to take account of a large group booking or something. Maybe one of the members that works for IB would be able to enlighten us?
BA are starting going to be using a B767 on the route from April, so there will be at least one widebody a day on LHR-MAD.
