Anyone have any info on the number of aircraft that currently hold the new colours scheme? More often then not in a week I see one or two in YYZ. Can anyone summerize the registrations that are in new colours via a census list?

I dont know an exact number.....but 80some aircraft are repainted. 20some were aircraft delivered in the new scheme, with the remainder being repainted. I heard the DC10s are going to get it now.

I can hardly imagine their DC-10s in the new color scheme. Older aircraft, maybe should keep the older c/s. Remember the one they split half and half with KLM? Pretty cool. Say, anybody know when/if NWA plans to retire DC-10s? (Is that what the A330's are going to replace?)

Ciao!

Through the last part of December there were 101 NW a/c with the new colors; 25 or so of that number were new deliveries since last April. Don't have the breakdown on a/c type, and yes, the A-330s ARE intended as replacements, in the long run, for the 10s.

I was at DTW last weekend, and it seemed that about half the NW aircraft parked at the McNamara Terminal were in the new colors. I was surprised to see so many planes in the new scheme - although I really do think it's a good look for Northwest. The Airbus aircraft look especially good in it.

DC-10s in the new colors would be soo awesome, I wonder how they would actually look. At least they are keeping the red tails, no duh! LOL

There’s little doubt that NW’s expedited the painting of their aircraft, despite previous claims they’d only be painted when their time came... all intercontinental aircraft should be in new colors by the end of the year, so this expedited process will continue – for now, at least.

L.1011,

That looks really nice, except for one thing...

Both nwa.com and the in-flight magazine show that the red tail will stop short of engine #3 -- leaving it fuselage grey. I would rather see more red, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

Just a sidenote- I saw N638US today at MSP... the 747-200 in the new colors. She looks good... was getting deiced on her way to HNL, blocking my aircraft from taxiing into G8, but it's OK... worth it for a good-looking plane.

How come no one has been able to capture a picture of the 747-200 in new colors yet? I'm still waiting to see it.

Re: "That looks really nice, except for one thing..."

The decision was made, and it's generated some debate, to keep the red portion of the tail proportionate to the size of the arc and compass point, from one a/c type to the next. In other words they didn't want different a/c types to have the arc and point take up different amounts of space in the red field. Some have argued that the red should have extended down to the top of the fuselage, as in the older liveries.

Personally, I think they should have scrapped the arc and point in favor of some other identifier, and made the tails fully red.

The 747-200 has been under wraps at MSP for a few weeks since arriving from AMA. I would venture to guess that it was turning into the beach configuration. Of course, I came back home to spot it this weekend, and it left in the afternoon snow. So it goes...  Pissed

Anybody good at altering pics that could do a picture of an Avro and a SAAB in the new colors? (like the DC10 above.)

NW just "decided" last week to keep the ARJ's. Now they can think about repainting the fleet. Painting the ARJ's and Saabs is a maintenance function which Mesaba pays. I guess they will have to work something out to pay for the design and paintjob.

I said it left too!!  Wink/being sarcastic

Tonight, we got an empty one in from SEA, old colors. Could this one be picking up the beach configuration now and then head down to AMA??
