Hi!

I thought it would be interesting to hear if anyone has been on a long GA x-country (in excess of a 1000 miles or so?)

I flew from close to SAT to close to FCA in a C-182. Added up to around 1700 miles.

regards

johan

Deltajax

Those flights were thirty years ago. I fly for an airline to be named after I retire this year. Based three time zones east but still live in the desert north of Reno and will retire there.

I know a guy who has flown from a small airport here in SE Michigan all the way to Augusta, GA in a Cessna 210 Turbo before needing a fuel stop. Final destination was southern FL.

My longest non-stop general aviation cross-country was a CRG-TMB flight in a Cessna 172 (Jacksonville Craig to Miami/Tamiami)... near 8 hours round trip.

When I was in FL at FIT, I was on the flight team. We flew from Melbourne, FL to Salina, KS for national competition, then back to KMLB, of course. What a memorable flight! It was in a PA-28-180
I did a XC flight for my Comm/Inst training at FL that consisted of KMLB-KABY-KSSI-KMLB. Took about 7.5 total flight time in an AG5B Tiger. Great aircraft! I call it "the convertible of the sky" since you can open the canopy in flight.
Most recently, I flew from Denver (FTG) to San Diego (SAN) in a Duchess BE-76 with a friend. The Southwest US has some spectacular scenery at low levels!

Deltajax,

I've flown the same X-Country that you named last, just in a different order. While I was training for the PPL, I did DAB-CRG-28J-DAB. We had to have someone at the airport sign it saying that we were actually there, which proved difficult at 28J for a bit since NO ONE was there, at all, for a bit.

Right now, BGR-ASH in a Mooney M20J, that's 194NM.

In a week or two, it'll be ASH-N40(Chester County, PA near MXE VOR)-DYL-ASH, which will be over 500NM! This is in the M20J also. I love that plane.

A friend and I flew from Florida to Seattle to Baltimore in a Ted Smith Aerostar P601 about 10 years ago. Westbound we flew from Spruce Creek (7FL6) which is near Daytona Beach, FL to Boeing Field (BFI) in Seattle, WA with stops in Nashville, TN, Kansas City, KS and Jackson, WY for a great circle distance of 2200 Nm. On the return, we flew Boeing Field (BFI)-Martin State (MTN) with stops in Great Falls, MT and Rochester, MN. The total great circle distance for the return was 2028 NM with the longest leg being 770 Nm GTF-RST. Lots of good memories on that trip!

April 1982 in a Grumman Cheetah: Lancaster, California (WJF) to Ft. Walton Beach Florida.

Stops in Tucson, El Paso, Brownwood, Lufkin, Baton Rouge and Mobile on the outbound.

Stops in New Orleans, Houston Hobby, San Antonio, Del Rio, Fort Stockton, El Paso and Blythe CA on the return.

Had a little over 100 hours at the time, VFR only. Didn't think we would ever get out of Texas and met the nicest airport people there.
