What in your opinion was TWA's best livery of all time? I personally like all of them, but would like to know your opinions. This includes all TWA liveries from beginning to end.

Yep, I am. Personally I like the classic globe(s) one...with that single red lightning bolt type down the center of the fuselage, with the twin interconnecting globes on the tailfin. It's the best one because it's screams "TWA". Regards.

I think their final livery was the best. Too bad it was just lipstick on a pig

Yes, indeed. While I really thought their last scheme was just great, the classic has to win, hands down.

I totally agree with TWFirst. Their final livery was the best of any major airline.

I liked the last one as well as the second to the last one, from the 80's. I remember when I took them before they merged at LAX, that some of the baggage carts and things had the old logos from then, with a large red field and TWA in white. I think its kind of cooll to see traces of their old image that they didn't chang over...

I love them all, but especially the last one.
They will always hold a special place in my heart, the very first airline I flew, a TWE J41 from GRR-STL, and an MD-80 from STL-SEA. First time I ever flew too.

Twin globes on a four-holer was class. That scheme on the "hot rod" was great.
The hot rod to the younger ones out there was the 880. Fastest thing around back then, until its slightly bigger brother, the 990 showed up. He was a little quicker yet. TW, of course did not fly the 990.

I know this is a little off-topic, but how come TW painted the black line on the wings of their aircraft on the final c/s?

I liked them all, but the globes were my favorite. Anybody remember the Connies? Wasn't that livery similar to the late '70's and 80's into the early 90's- kind of a throw-back at any rate, I miss TWA! Not Forgotten!

Several questions about the Red Stripes:
1. Why did TWA only outline the 'Trans World' letters of the Red Stripes scheme when the scheme was applied in the 1970's before painting them in solid red in the 1980's?
2. Why did TWA aircraft have gray engine nacelles in the 1980's but white ones in the late 80's/early 90's?
3. Why did TWA get rid of the black paint under the cockpits of their aircraft at the dawn of the 1990's?
Thank you very much for participation in this discussion so far. Very much enjoy the opinions of others

26 NDB707: One for Thrust, The 747 and L1011 pics show my fave TWA c/s, it looks great on a B707.

28 Chicago757: THRUST....That livery is the best one i think from the 80s and early 90s!
29 DC3CV3407AC727: the golden globes and starstream 707s, that livery even looked good on the connie and starliner !
30 Thrust: I am happy that you feel that way, Chicago 757. I loved all the TWA liveries. I think they can be compared to AA's livery
31 N312RC: The best TWA scheme was from the "Up Up and Away TWA" years... the first appearance of the double globe.
