Not sure if this is a new service or not, but Oakland, California is on thier summer schedule with non-stop service to Lajes on Terceira Island:

SP 8608 TER 0915-1300 OAK
SP 8609 OAK 1645-0910 TER

Flight will operate on Mondays with a 767.

This is good for Oakland and bad for San Francisco. Up until a few years back Sata would operate SFO-BOS-TER on either A310 or L1011 equipment...

SATA with a 767? They have A310's and they have flown charters to OAK before. There is something wrong with that information though, unless they are wetleasing a 767 from somebody.

SATA never had L1011's either, again, unless they were wetleased.

LHR001,Sata has always served Oakland. It use to be with a A310 before, this is not new service. Nice to see them return, I know there has been threads before about this.

I don't think they came to SFO. I know they have not been here since 1995, before that maybe. I just don't see why its a loss to SFO! I doubt SFO cares. They are more interested in impressing the VirginUSA crew this week. Since Sata has sreved OAK since at least 1995 I bet SFO did not even blink an eye at this.

Is Sata a safe airline? I am considering a trip from YYZ to LIS this summer on Sata.

There is nothing to indicate SATA is not safe. I will likely choose SATA over Air Transat this year to LIS. They have a roomier cabin, and they usually allow flightdeck visits. Plus, the price is usually identical to Air Transat. The drawback with SATA is they have relatively poor on-time performance.

I've seen the SATA flights leave a couple of times from OAK, and the lines have been absolutely huge, snaking thru Terminal 1.

Lots of families with Portuguese background in the Bay Area, and especially the Central Valley.

A little off topic. Did TAP ever serve SFO? I remember seeing a sign at the old International terminal at about 1988 w/TAP on the sign. Maybe a charter?

These are charter flights operated by Sun Trips vacations who contracts the air service to North American Airlines which uses the Boeing 767. The flights are operated nonstop.

In the past, the flights were operated by a SATA A310, an ATA L-1011 and a Rich International L-1011. All of those flights operated via Boston.
