United 767-222s Up For Sale

Looks like just about all of the 767-222s are up for sale. Fleet leaders here have about 77,000 hours on them, and up to 19,500 cycles. Some are up for grabs now, the rest seem to indicate that they will be leaving the fleet by the end of the year (available "By 01/2005").

I flew on N612UA, the same aircraft hijacked on 09/11/01 and flown into the south tower of the World Trade Center, two weeks prior, from JFK to LAX. The plane was in excellent shape. Clean, well maintained. Good paint job, but these birds are gettin' old.

The most likely suitors for these 767-200s would be freight/cargo carriers, ABX, UPS etc..

Too old for passenger carriers, however freight/cargo carriers put fewer hours on airframes so they would be able to extend the life cycles of these aircraft.

OK I can see where this post is degenerating to. Notice that NW does not have any of their DC-9s for sale on that site. Double or nothing on that AN-12 bet i made a few days ago, NW will not replace their DC-9s with 767-222s!

Does this include the first production model 767? I know United took delivery of both #1 and #2.

Does anyone know the tail number of the first 767? Would it be N767UA? Or is that too obvious?

I don't think United has ln #1.

I flew on N606UA - City of Chicago about 2 years ago, it's an experience I will never forget. The plane was clean and comfortable, the windows clean and neat, and it looked like it was washed... The only problem was with the Tray table which was having a hard time going up and down.

As far as I know, it is the oldest 767 in UAL's fleet and in North america.

I flew in December SFO-CDG-SFO on a UA 767. First Class seating was soooo bad I don't even want to imagine how the folks in the back can enjoy such a long flight in these conditions!!!!!!!

I can't wait to fly the same route with United on their 777 on April 6th to get the F suite and travel in decent conditions this time. 767's should be banned from all type of long or very long haul routes!!

N606UA, mentioned earlier, flew the inaugural 767 flight --from ORD to DEN --on Sept. 8, 1982. Sad to see it will be leaving UA.
