Status Of Fedex DC-10's Still In UAL Colors?

Per the topic title, does anyone know when the former UAL DC-10's that FX has will be painted into the FX livery? Says alot about FX's demand that they needed those planes in service so bad that the couldn't not get a coat of paint in conjunction with the freighter conversion. Are they due to be MD-10's and will get painted then?

Seems odd here at MEM and seeing one of those land/depart amongst all the other blue and whites.

Thanx in advance to all who respond!

I don't know when it'll be painted, but it was here at DEN a few days ago. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a picture.

Actually, those planes were operated by UA as freighters, I think they had 4 of them. One was only 800 hours away from a D check however, and was not taken up. Fedex has 3 in United Cargo colors now. There was no respray opportunity at conversion for Fedex, they may be resprayed at the next heavy check though.

FedEx has had these planes for nearly 3 years. They lease the planes from United and will probably return them. They are -30 planes.

FedEx has put the MD-10 program on hold. Haven't seen these ones yet, I got to work N217FE the other day though. It was a nice treat.

P.S. 217 is the last 727.

One of them is here in DTW. I can't get close enough to it to see the registration. But I can see it from the the Midfield Terminal.

N323FE and N326FE used to come to STL all the time. They were notorious for breaking down. From what I understand, the lease is almost up.

You can still distinctly read the "UAL Cargo" on the side of at least one of them.

Are any of the ex-UAL DC-10s still at STL? How much longer will it be before all ex-UAL DC-10s, including ones at STL, are all converted into MD-10s for FedEx?

They used to use them here quite often. I haven't seen one in a few weeks.

I've never seen a -30 with the MD-10 upgrade. Is this even a possibility?

I saw one at EWR last month. Confused me at first when I saw the UA liv over by the FX ramp, but then realized there were no titles, and remembered that these were with FX now.

323fe will be returned to the lessor in march 04 & 326fe will be returned in April. They are both leased -30's that where flown by United cargo. The MD 10 program is alive and well here at FEDEX. MD10 560FE is setting right in front of me right now. Its Brand new .... Kind of ???

DC10guy, How much has the crash of the one at MEM in December affected dispatching? We seem to be getting more A-300s at STL since then. I can't reach the single point adapters on those too well, so I don't like them!

Of course, this also means that we get a 727 as well as it takes both to make up for the capacity of a DC-10.  Big thumbs up

In early 2002, most of UA and AA DC 10's were at Goodyear awaiting conversions to MD 10's. Most were model 10's but there was a few model 30's among the 30 airplanes I counted. Almost all had the airline names painted out. I was at Goodyear in April of 2003 and most of these planes were gone. Some were scrapped, I was told because the company that was to do the conversions, went out of business. Anyone have more info on the DC 10's that was parked at Goodyear, AZ?

Pilotpip, When 364fe crashed in MEM it couldn't of happened at a worse time. Lucky for us we had ex-Fedex aircraft 322FE on short term lease. That helped take up some slack for the x-mas rush. Fedex is returning all the -30's when their leases run out. The MD-11's are kind of replacing the -30's We do have about 5 -30 MD 10's right now. I think the number of MD10's planned for now is 88 was 89 .... We are going to get about 13 this year.

It brings a tear to my eye when I see those. I worked on those planes. One of them smells like cheap dime store perfume. I guess a pallet with cheap perfume from Asia broke on one of the flights. I guess they could never clean it up.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I wondered why N322FE wasn't fully painted. It was in the purple and white colors, but it didn't have the FedEx Livery on it. It was in Indy over Thanksgiving. So, FedEx is going to get rid of all the -30s? I did hear that they weren't going to convert anymore -30s to MD10. Also, I heard the MD10 project was much more costly than they originally thought.
