Virgin Atlantic's 747-400 'Mustang Sally' G-VROC showed up at LAX today (Sun). Last week G-VROY made the trip...why all of a sudden, are the primarily Florida ships..showing up in Vegas and LA now after so long? Have yet to see G-VROM and G-VROS yet.
Thanks

G-VROC has recently had the new Upper Class suite fitted and is most definitely flying the lucrative LHR-LAX route so expect to see more of that aircraft at LAX in the future.
G-VROM, G-VROS, G-VROY are all cancelled Alitalia order which VS picked them up on a cheap. All these aircrafts are based at LGW. In the case of G-VROY doing the LHR-LAX route was that some LHR 744 are having maintenace checks and Upper Class suite fitted and G-VROY went from LGW to LHR as a temporary replacement.

Hi All
Flew on G-VROC from LHR to SFO Thursday and again on Saturday from SFO to LHR( in the Upper Class Suite I may add !! ) and was under the impression that this aircraft primararily did the SFO and JFK route. The aircraft has done other routes but VS are advertising the Suite on these routes at the moment, according to the crew on the flight.

Just to correct slightly the above,
there are 5 ex-alitalia order 744's with VS, these are all based at LGW :
G-VROS
G-VROM
G-VROY
G-VLIP
G-VGAL
As stated above, G-VROC is not an Alitalia 744, but a brand new (only a few months old) VS one.
G-VTOP and G-VROC have had the conversion to the new suites and have been doing the VS3/4 (LHR-JFK) and VS19/20 (LHR-SFO) routes.
I understand that G-VAST has now also had the upgrade, which means that suites are also flying ad hoc on other routes, which seem to be mainly LAX and JNB.
Sometimes one of the LHR 744's goes tech, which is probably why you saw G-VROY at LAX (this is v. unusual - its normally east coast flights that get the stand-ins), however G-VROY at LAS is very common, as this served from LGW by the ex-Alitalia fleet mentioned above.

My pleasure!
Richard 28 is correct that there are 5 ex-Alitalia (cancelled order) 744 based at LGW. These have a different seating configurations to the LHR 744. VS are concentrating on the LHR 744 to have the Upper Class suite fitted then the LHR A346 and eventually LGW 744.
Yes G-VAST has now been fitted with the suite. Next on the list are G-VBIG and G-VHOT.
