perhaps in sales... though AA would remain the largest airline by the most commonly accepted standard: ASMs

I'm sure AA has the biggest fleet as well ... unless Aeroflot still counts all those helicopters, crop-dusters, etc.

I'd hate to see KLM being swallowed up. Wouldn't KLM still keep flying seperately under the new ownership like Lauda Air and Tyrolean of Austrian Airlines?

IF KL is painted in AFs colors, THEN I WILL hate the french. Sorry, but it hurts Dutch pride.

But regarding the topic, good ol' AA will still be the biggest airline with the biggest fleet, and... most destinations? (Not too sure on that one)

AF-KL will only be bigger in sales. By the way, what's going to happen with the NW-KL Alliance? will NW be part of skyteam then? Ummm... ? Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Komododx,

No mystery, Northwest has officially stated many times that they plan to join Skyteam as has Continental. NW and KL will still have their alliance.

From what I understand, the two airlines will maintain their identities to a certain degree. Aircraft will remain the same colors, but they will coordinate schedules, eliminate some reduncancies, share revenues, etc. It will probably be a lot like AA and TWA shortly after the merger -- everyone's working for AMR, schedules are combined, but the airlines are separate.
