Which Is Better "Airline" Or "Airport"

Alright, as it has already been stated in the forum, "I paid my $25 bucks to post this", but I see all these posts and have to say the show (now running on BBC America) Airport is far better than Airline. "Airline" limits itself to one airline, WN, and "Airport" gives a great overview of how LHR runs from the wheelchair attendants to the manager of Gulf Air. Thumbs up to Airport, the UK pulls out a far better product.

My vote goes to Airport. I find the show fascinating. I've only seen Airline twice but it was all the same. Airline seemed like they took all the drunks and put them in the spotlight. I thought the show overall was rather trashy and does not really show WN in a great way. On the other hand Airport goes through out the whole airport operation of LHR and shows what goes on behind the scenes of a major international airport. I think it's great.

Its a toss up. Sometimes Airport is better and other times Airlines is.
Airport tends to focus on stuff like crime and medical emergencies too much.

WN has always been good to me, so by no means is this meant to be a knock on them, but the A&E show is like an infomercial. I'm waiting for the "just set it and forget it!" line to come in. However, we are comparing shows, and Airport is a far better product. BBC America has Airport on at least once a week, over the Xmas holiday I think they had a 24 hours of Airport run, I loved it, and found it much more interesting. Like most shows BBC America runs, we get a 2 or 3 year old episode, but the quality is far better.

That would depend on your tastes. Aside from the obvious difference in subject matter its like the difference between a quiet and sedate night on the discovery channel or a "reality" show mixing wrestling, talent contests, and slap in your face shock at what the customer is really like,

Unlike many who think "our passengers don't do that on ------", no, they all do, just to a less frequent extent. That's part of why so many employees seem more blase the more seniority they have and the older the carrier. The edgier the treatment the edgier the passenger.

So, which do you prefer? The "How tight can we see them get cranked" or "How shall we do this task with class and dignity"? You choose. It's your mirror.

I know Airline isn't supposed too be a knock on them. I just feel that they put a lot of trash in there. I've taken WN once and had no real problems with them, I just found their cattle car approach to boarding a little asinine, especially at 6am.
As I said earlier I feel Airport is of much better quality and I enjoyed watching a lot of the marathon over the X-Mas break as I froze my self to death back in NJ.

Has anyone seen both the British and the American version of Airline? I was wondering how they compare.

Airport is good because it follows the staff, Airline (UK) is good because it follows passengers more, and one airline. I prefer Airport though  Big thumbs up

Can't wait for the new series of Airport which is coming soon!

I prefer Airport as well. Airline is now just of idiotic people who want to get on TV and showing off cos they can raise their voice. Its full of the same thing, people turning up late for their flights and kicking off cos they aren't allowed to board the aircraft.

Is "Airport" running on BBC America in the states? I can find no mention of the program on the website nor via TiVo. Would love to check out an episode.

Thanks!

The British version of "Airline" follows the operation of Easyjet at Luton and Liverpool airports. Some parts of it, however, had nothing to do with the airline, and instead focussed on different aspects of the lives of the characters in them - like male models going on holiday for a photo shoot, one of the Easyjet staff having hair extensions and getting married, etc... I don't seem to remember Airport being like this, the BBC focussed only on airport operations (the one exception I can remember being years ago when Aeroflot's Jeremy Spake dressed up as a Christmas Pudding for a charity auction) and did not follow staff around outside of their working lives at the airport. (This is only what I remember of it, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Also, with Airport, we don't have to endure a commercial break in the middle!

Ben

I preferred "Airport". It used to be on Discovery Wings for awhile, but haven't seen it listed for the past month or so.

"Airline" is also good....but tends to lean too much toward the formula for the trashy network "reality" shows. It would figure that the BBC puts out a better all-around product.

I'll have to start checking the listings for BBC-America to see when they have "Airport" on.

Regards to all,

Mike

Wow, that's a toss-up for me as well. I like them both -- a lot -- but probably for different reasons. I like "Airline" as it reminds me of when I worked at DSM. We didn't/don't have WN, but some of the passengers could act the same!

I like "Airport" for its variety -- and not a focus on just one airline for the whole show. Yes, we see Maria who works for Cyprus a lot, and John working QANTAS, but there's the immigration guy, animal control, etc. (their names escape me for the moment).

Both of 'em -- good shows!  Big thumbs up And yes, I'll confirm that "Airport" is now on Tuesdays at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central on Discovery Wings, although the last one was a repeat from 2002.

I definitely prefer "Airport", more characters, more real-life situations, the BBC always chose an airline at LHR and concentrated on it (Gulf Air, Aeroflot, Canadian airlines, Cyprus Airways etc. More airfield action also. "Airline" was quite sterile, i got bored of seeing stupid passengers turning up for check in at Luton with their passport still in Liverpool. Too many off-the-scene stories aswell, like weddings of crew members etc.

Hey welcome to the forum (said the new guy also)  Smile

I have to agree that "Airport" is a better program. I love watching operations at LHR and the staff running around like headless chickens.

Airline was a bit boring for me. Especially watching SleazyJet operations and the amount of complaints they got.

I've seen them both...and right now 'Airline' is FAST loosing its appeal to me (drunks, lost bags, drunks and more lost bags) I REALLY miss 'Airport' on Discovery Wings.

I like both shows just the same. I feel that Airline would be better if more airlines would get involved with the show. I also feel that Airport would be better if the showed Gatwick.

I would like to see Discovery Wings or BBC America pick up the UK version 'Airline', to compare, but for now 'Airport' is my favorite. I did notice that WN seems to put mainly Supervisors in the show, you don't see the diversity that you get with 'Airport'. They had a good bit on one of the wheelchair attendants, and the guy who works with the animals is great. The time and schedule is in an earlier post, if you haven't caught it yet, watch on Tuesday and let us know what you think.

26 Canoecarrier: Here's the schedule for the rest of the month for 'Airport' and the show description. For those of you in the UK it says its from Season 6. http://win
27 Gnomon: I stopped watching "Airport" when, for several consecutive episodes, the producers became unusually interested in the activities of the London Metropo
28 Post contains images VapourTrails: I prefer Airport over Airline, but unfortunately I haven't seen any new episodes of Airport in Australia for a few years.
29 Ola: Never seen 'Airline' as I'm not able to see it, but 'Airport' is great.
