I think it was cleared the other day by the EU competition authorities.

It was approved by the EU as Donder10 stated but they also made some consession such as giving up slots, and or routes I think. And it will be 3 years before the merger is completed. http://biz.yahoo.com/djus/040211/1245000935_10.html

I wish them luck, but I don't think it's going to work. I see a culture clash in the making. Pretty much like Mercedes and Chrysler, which is going through a very bumpy road. Or the failed Renault/Volvo merger of a few years ago.

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

Separate companies, logos seem to be the plan to keep the mixups down. Wonder how long that will last. And those strikes....my god.

I really hope the EU Government blocks the move, it may make sense for the two airlines, but I can see how it’s going to make the skies over Europe more 'open'.

KLM what are you thinking? Merge with BA instead!

Kimberly.

Maybe KLM had no other chances as the Frenchies took them over.  Big grin

Shows you that bigger isn't necessarily better...I hope this company doesn't implode in the future due to bad planning, cultural conflicts...that sort of things that bring down good companies.

767-332ER,

True, what sometimes looks good on paper, does not always work in the real world.

True true. VSGirl are you really a pilot on the A343/346? Sounds nice, can you tell me more about the performance/handling of the aircraft. I'm very interested.....

Why o why does it have to be a take over. Why didn't they just join. Why does KLM have to be sold....I'm sure after 5 years the French will strip it and dump it...
