Tonight I saw an all white Colgan Air Saab 340 arrive at PWM with USAirways Express tittles. I noted the registration as being N360BE which must have been a former Bussiness Express-BEX aircraft if i'm not mistaken. When American Eagle purchased BEX four years ago, as I understood it their 340's were to be returned to Saab leasing. I guess I had assumed they went back to Sweden. Apparently not.
How much former BEX equipment has Colgan acquired? Where have the rest of the former BEX S-340A fleet gone?

I'm not sure on the specifics, but there were a number of former BEX were stored in LAN for a while. (Lansing, MI)

Almost all of our 'A' Models went to Chautauqua and later on to Shuttle America. The 'B's are a little more spread out.... Some went to Aerolitoral in Mexico, some went to Colgan and the rest are with REX in Austrialia. The aircraft you saw, N360BE is with CJ only for a short term lease. Sadly, the first two Saab that BEX flew, N340BE and N341BE where scrapped here in Nashville last year and s/n 096 (the old BEX reg slips my mind) was scrappend in Lansing, MI.

I use to work as a Delta contract ramp agent in PWM and spent many days on the ramp next to the BEX gates. After 14 years of them here, with as many as 15-20 flights a day, I kind of grew accostomed and board with seeing them. Now all we get here are RJ's . The Colgan flight tonight pulled in next to an ACA Unied Express RJ. Looking at the two of them side by side, I asked myself which would I want to fly if I was a young F/O and it was the 340

PWM2x-

I spent New Years day night 1998 sleeping on the sofa in the BEX crew room after chasing a broken Saab in PWM and Flight Control could not get us a hotel room.....after that I was sent to Nashville to run all the Lease Returns later that year.

Shrtaprch,

LoL, yeah yoy taxied right by me. I was parked right by the fence in the Delta Freight parking lot with the lights off waiting for the cops to come investigate. I left home in a hurry to catch a DL 737 that made an appearance tonight, and forgot my drivers license in the the process, so I thought I might have problems if security came to question me.

Just a follow up..

I found my old pictures of the planes being repainted for the new customers, and s/n 096 was N342BE. It flew with Chautauqua as N96CN and was one of the first Saab's to wear the 'new' TWExpress colors...be it only for a short time. So with that, the first 3 Saab 340's that BEX flew, have now been scrapped.....N340BE (062), N341BE (063), N342BE (096)
