OAI DC-10-30 At Bangor

I was driving by Bangor International (Maine) yesterday with my son, after spending the day at Univ. Maine Open House. There was an OAI DC-10-30 at the gate, and behind that was a C-17. This was at around 4pm Monday. Can someone tell me what kind of carrier OAI is, and where this plane might have been coming from/going to?

It was probably a military charter coming back from Iraq. Not sure where it was going. Omni does a lot of this along with World. If is was parked to the right of the International building this is definately the case, especially with the C-17

and do military and other contract work. The aircraft you saw in Bangor was probably enroute to/from Europe and the Mideast operating an AMC trip for the military.

I don't think it was an MD-11. I was able to get right to the fence to see that it did not have winglets. It was connected to a jetway, by the way. To CO2BGR, thanks for the offer! It was a very enjoyable visit for us...as bone-chilling cold as it was! UMaine did a great job of organizing the event, giving us the opportunity to see the campus, meet with people, get information, and enjoy what I thought was a very nice lunch in one of the four dining areas. Better food than I remember in my college days 'way back' in the late 1970s! By the way, on our drive up we saw off in the distance what appeared to be either a C-5 or a C-17 departing BGR. I guess BGR is a common stopping point for fuel for these cargo aircraft on their way to/from Europe? With aerial refueling capabilities on the C-5s and C-17s, it makes me wonder why they stop there??

As for BGR, when I worked there, you would always see something different up on the ramp. You name it, its 'prolly come through Bangor International.

Bangor is one of our major Customs stops on the East coast coming over from Europe and the Mid-East (Pease is another). I've stopped there in the E-3 several times and on ATA L-1011 (Omni is another Military charter biggie)Charters.

YOu know, i never knew this until recently and I'm somewhat surprised, that a military aircraft with military crew has to clear customs. I mean i can understand my (World) or Omni stopping, we're still bound by civilian regs, but an E-3?? I just find that kinda... I dunno.

Yes we have to clear customs, it is easier at places like Bangor or Pease because the guy at Tinker is an ass and it takes forever. At other points they just take our customs forms and move on. Even as a cargo courier on a 141 I had to work the cutsoms for sensitive cargo at Pease. We all have to clear customs  Smile They used to sell Cuban cigars in Saudi, we wouldn't want anyone sneaking those in  Big grin

Going along with the discusion above and in my own experiance on the AMC charters I would bet it was a Mil charter stopping for customs on the way back to the USA.
