Hey,

Just to let you know that P&O Cruises have charted a number of aircraft from the following airlines to fly services from London Gatwick, London Stansted, Bournemouth Intl, Birmingham, Manchester & Glasgow all going to New Orleans.

Britannia Airways (Boeing 767 series 200 & 300)

Monarch Airlines (Airbus A330-200)

&

Thomas Cook (Airbus A330-200)

The first aircraft should arrive into New Orleans at around 13:00 local time. They should have all taken off again for the UK by 19:00 local time.

Kimberly.

Well the only additional cruise liner I see calling at the Port of New Orleans is the RCCL Rhapsody of the Seas, but she won't arrive until the 23rd, presumably for an extra Mardi Gras cruise. If these charters do indeed take place, it looks like the vacationers will have a few days to explore N.O.

I'm curious as to where all of these aircraft will park if they do indeed arrive at the same time....C1,3,5,and 11 perhaps....I wonder if they'll move our flight and Taca's flight to a deffereent gate...hmmmmm.

No flights from Cardiff?

Odd..

Ah well, we will have to make do with the other trans-atlantic charters to Barbados, Toronto and Orlando..!

Milo

March 5th is the day that they are arriving, not today.

Three aircraft will be arriving at about 1:00pm and two will be coming in at about 5:00pm. They will park at C3,C5,C11, and C12.

This is confirmed information.

Gotta work that day, Fred, so I can't do it (probably just a quick photo run for me). Plus, it'll be a quick getaway from the airport seeing as Lebron's in town that night vs. the Hornets.

Y'all getting pounded up there today? We had a couple of tornado warnings down here earlier.

Interesting, P&O markets its cruise mainly to Brits and is virtually invisible in the USA, but they are operating their ship Oriana on a 15 night Caribbean cruise out of New Orleans on March 5 that ends up in Barbados. In as much as she carries about 1,800 passengers, and practically all would be coming from the UK, the number and size of the aircraft chartered makes sense. You can check her out here:

Not to digress, but it's interesting how segmented the cruise business is becoming...Despite the consolidation of ownership, you have brands like P&O that cater almost exclusively to Brit tastes, then I think there are some catering mainly to Germans and Italians, and then you of course have the major cruise lines like Carnival that are targeted squarely at Middle America. I took a friend from France on a 3-night cruise to Nassau from Port Canaveral and she came back knowing how to speak redneck!

P & O is part of Cruise giant Carnival Cruise line. Yes P & O is mostly targeted and sold to the British, it is a different market than the US. The US wants the newest and the biggest when it comes to cruise ships
